Health insurance for baby

If I'm still on my mother's health insurance, will my baby be covered too? My boyfriend is still on his parents health insurance too, so we can't put the baby on his.  My mom's health insurance has covered my prenatal care, but I'm not completely sure what to do about finding a pediatrician if I don't have my own health insurance plan.

Hi. I had my oldest child when I was 17. I was also on my dad's insurance. They did cover my prenatal care and hospital stay, but they did not cover my baby. I had to put her on Medicaid.

Maybe there is a grace period for the baby to be covered under ur mom's insurance. But it might not cover. Like on mine. Since I chose to keep my maiden name instead of taking my husband's Surname n the baby will have my husband's last name. Our insurance is under mine name so I can't add my child (officially) until I fax over the birth certificate to them. Then they can add the baby even if my husband is under my insurance. The insurance will still cover at the hospital for the baby but if I don't provide the birth certificate it will not pay for the cost. That is just cause I chose to keep my last name.

Typically, no. I have never heard of a grandparents insurance covering a grandchild. The company sees you as your mother's responsibility so they cover you. Your child will be viewed as your responsibility so you will most likely need to have your baby on medicaid or the court will force your boyfriend to pay for insurance.

To be positive you should just call your insurance company.

I don't know how it works where you're from, but if I had to guess I would say no your baby won't be covered by your mom's health plan. You or your bf would have to have your own health plan in order for your baby to be covered I would think. You could always ask your mom's health insurance company.
