Need some advice.. Blood work results.

Ok so I am having to change my doctor because we had to move but my old doctor called me earlier today to let me know about my last blood work. He said that it came back that I was positive for carrying cystic fibrosis and could have a 25%chance of passing it on to my baby. I have had two other kids and I was never told this before. And when I told him that he said they may not have tested me for it. He said we could have an amniocentesis done and then if the baby has it we could talk about either keeping it or terminating the pregnancy. But I said that was and would never be an option!! I just couldn't imagine that. But I told my husband and now he's so worried about it but he said as well that there's no way he would ever think of not wanting our baby. I just don't know what to think. I am going to get my new doctor to do more blood work and retest me for it. But any advice is appreciated. Or has anyone else gone through this. I am 18 weeks.

I know I am in the 18-24 community but I figured I would post in these other ones and see what advice yall have.

I am going to schedule my husband an appt soon. I just hope he isn't a carrier.

Your parents probably were never tested.   One of your parents is probably a carrier like you.   The odds are slim that both you and your husband are carriers.  Have him tested.

Did your husband get tested also?  If he's negative then your baby won't have cystic fibrosis but may be a carrier

Thats why I dont like that blood test that they do.  It only tests the moms blood and gives u the chance back of it might happen to your baby.   Freaks people out for no reason.

Yeah both of my sons are by my husband. I just don't see how I have it when my mom said she's never been told she has it nor my dad. But no this is a gift given to us by God and we will just deal with any problems it may have.

I would talk to my new doctor about your concerns then get dad tested does this baby have the same dad ad your other 2? I ask because since you both have to be carriers and the other children are fine then this one would be to. If it was me and no matter what you would continue with the pregnancy(which i would to) then i would ask what kind of test would or could be done after the baby was born and go from there. I do know how you feel its scary not knowing i was in the same boat my husband has ushers syndrome (born deaf and has rp which is an eye deisease)

That's what I'm planning to do. I will be making him an appt soon to be tested. But I just don't know how I have it because my mom nor my dad has ever been told that they carry it.

Cystic fibrosis is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern.  This means that both mom and dad must be carriers in order to give it to baby.  If u are both carriers,  there is a 1 in 4 chance baby will get the disease.  Was dad tested? If not, that would be my next step.  That way u can know if baby has a 0 or 25% risk.  This disease can cause lots of lung problems and infections so knowing the risk might help treat a sick baby faster. Good luck mama.  I hope everything turns out perfectly.
