How do I relieve my cold symptoms?

On top of the fabulous morning sickness I'm having problems with headaches, a cough and a runny nose. What can I do to help get rid of them now that I'm 8 weeks along?

Wyottsmom - The cold I have at the moment that seems to get worse at night & I'm fed up of not sleeping with the congestion. I have a tub of Vicks, how would you recommend using it? Apparently if u put it on the soles of your feet it works, but never has done for me. I also have a Vicks (I think) Sinex nasal spray - would I be ok using that do u think?

Some drs or midwives are hesitant to allow or should I say advise pregnant patients to take anything.

Try hot showers to help steam wise plus the hot water feels great. The water should only really be hot enough to produce steam because of the risk of increasing body temp over safe temperatures.

Vicks is very helpful for some symptoms.

Try icey hot muscle rub even a off brand. You smell it and it has a strong menthol smell that normally can cut through any congestion.

Humidifier to put moisture in the air and a cold mist is better for you then warm mist. It helps to keep mucus loose so you can blow it out or cough it up.

Robatussin, benadryl and Tylenol are all on the safe side and can help loads.

Hope you feel better soon I am going through the same thing and feel your pain.

I'm actually nearing the end of a cold at the moment. My midwife said all I could take was paracetamol and inhaling the steam from a bowl of hot water.

I've been doing the steam, I've been drinking hot orange / hot blackcurrant for the vitamin C kick & I've also been adding a teaspoon of honey and lemon juice to a cup of boiled water.

I've had my cold 3 days now & it has settled somewhat now. I'm just starting to get a bit of a cough now :-/

Early on, I was super hesitant to take anything because I worried about development. But I was sick with bronchitis early on and the dr gave me a list.

They told me to take regular robitussen for cough, and Claritin or Benedryl for the congestion/allergies, and Tylenol for headaches.

If you're not sure, you can always call the dr/nurse or talk to the pharmacy. They can usually let you know what over the counter stuff you can take. And I would say if you're nervous about any of it, calling is always good because it can calm your nerves.
