Castor oil to help labor

ok I can't take this anymore. Is it okay to try a little castor oil???? I'm so over these contractions that are getting me no where. I hear some horror stories about castor oil but has anyone had a issue or does it really get labor going? Does it cause massive diarrhea? Should I try it?

I have heard some good 'adult time' with your bf/DH is way more helpful to get that area working. It will be the last time for a while, try to enjoy it.

My sister took it for a couple of her kids and it didn't do anything with one and it helped her go into labor with another. I think baby comes when ready .

I get the same effects from eating gluten I think. I'm pretty intolerant (possibly caeliac) and the other day I gave into eating fresh bread and the stomach cramps set off continuous Braxton hicks for hours... I was very uncomfortable. I'd much prefer to wait for natural contractions than combine labour cramps with painful stomach cramps!

If you are going to try it, I'd just have a little bit to start off with and see how your body reacts. Another warning is that the gall bladder can act up in pregnancy for a lot of women... So if you don't know that your gall bladder is weakened at this stage yet, a lot of castor oil could really set off a bad attack, which is the last thing you need to deal with if you're in labour!

I hv used it and had no problems. I googled natural ways to start labor and castor oil is one. I dnt see it as being a problem...well as least for me. Ppl say let baby come but when ur body us tired its time to take action lol.

I used it with my first. I was in active labor but not enough to keep me at the hospital. I took it and 24 hours layer had my daughter. Had no issues during delivery and my child is perfectly healthy. I plan on doing it again this time as well. I was told it won't work unless your in active labor. A friend of mine also used it with no issues.

I have read some really bad stories of using this. Down to causing issues with the baby. Baby will come when it's ready. Rushing it runs the risk of other problems.

My doctors don't recommend it to anyone. They try to steer women away from taking it and suggest safer alternatives to trying to start labour.

I hear it can cause bad diarrhea. Maybe an enema? That can help progress everything.

Some Drs say it's fine, some say it's unsafe. I personally wouldn't do it. It sounds horrible and doesn't seem worth the risk. My mother took it when she was pregnant with my brother and said she never should have and would never do it again, but it seems to work for some women.
