My doctor recommended Milk of Magnesia. It worked for me! He said constipation is common in pregnancy. :(

Caffeine free coffee (or caffeinated if you aren't cutting caffeine) warm  liquid is better than cold so even when drinking water heat it up. Seriously, my last two pregnancies nothing worked: apple anything, prune juice, fiber, etc. But decaf coffee took an hour tops ( should note I am not normally a coffee drinker so it's possible someone who drinks it frequently may not have the same results)

Dried fruit does help. But if its a recurring issue, it might be caused by your prenatal. You might ask your Dr if switching to another prenatal would ease the block. It did for me.

I had the same problem. Prunes, eggs, and tons of high fiber foods helped get me a little more regular.

I believe stool softeners are fine.  The main thing you need to know is what is causing it.   With my first pregnancy, it was the brand of prenatal vitamins.  You might need a different prescription.

The list of otc medications to take while pregnant that my obgyn gave me states it's safe to take Metamucil for constipation. Try eating popcorn as well, bc of the high fiber content.

If you wany something that will work in 20 minutes, get some glycerol suppositories. Its the only way to relieve the pressure quickly :) please note though: its not taken orally :/

At first I took a fiber supplement to get the flow going again... To keep regular I eat a good fiber cereal in the morning for breakfast.

This may sound silly but eating a can of spinach always does it for me. Sometimes eating a salad works as well but not like the spinach.
