feel like I am starving myself...

I don't want to gain any weight. So I eat a little as I can. I am overweight already and my ob  was not very nice to  me about my weight.. as if full figured women shouldn't get pregnant.  I gained 55lbs with my first. Down 5 lbs so far this pregnancy (11wks 1 d)  I make good choices and make lots of fruit smoothies. I'm just terrified of that weight check-in every appt. :(   just my thoughts! ....

Gun even if you are over weight it doesn't mean you shouldn't have a baby. Don't let them get to you. But honestly now is not the time to try to lose weight. You need to eat lots of healthy snacks and meals so you have enough calories for you and baby to thrive. If you are eating plenty of healthy stuff and losing weight that's one thing but don't starve yourself and try to lose weight. Good luck!

I have a friend who was told it was okay to maintain or even slowly lose a few. She is quite a bit over weight. But this was something she and her doctor discussed.

Be careful with the fruit smoothies.  Fruits have a lot of sugar.  Sugar turns to fat, yadda yadda.  If anything try adding more veggies to your diet.  Eat healthy fats (like avocado, almonds, etc...) And good carbs.  Spinach is really good for you.  My husband and I eat it every day in everything.  Eggs & spinach, sandwiches & spinach. Etc... Switch to whole grain breads if you like sandwiches.  Eat good healthy proteins.  I make salmon salad sandwiches with canned salmon instead of tuna.  It's better for you.  Multi grain cereals with almond milk are good for breakfast.  Greek yogurt with milled flaxseed & Chua seeds are excellent sources of fiber and protein with some good bacteria for your gut. Replace all cokes (yes, even diet) with water water water.  You can bake chicken breast or make soup with chicken breast. Use olive oil instead of butter.  Don't eat fast food or anything fried.  Buy the extra lean ground beef.  Don't use ranch on salads... Use oil & vinegar... Avoid the bacon bits and ham chunks and loads of cheese.  There are so many healthy food choices you can make.

Don't skip meals... It's bad for you and baby.

You don't have to diet... Just eat healthy.  Your body will love you for it.  Try walking and doing prenatal yoga.  So good for you.

Fruits are good but you just have to be careful with them.  I think blueberries have the least sugar content and most antioxidants?  Pretty sure melons & bananas have the most.  I have to double check that but I think those are much higher.

Anyway... My sister in law is a personal trainer so even though my husband and I do all these things we still get in trouble by her for some of the "bad" things we eat... But he's athletic, he surfs & I well... Just try and eat as healthy as I can because I want to be abletto run and jump.& play with my kid when he or she comes.  Plus I am a gymnastics coach so I want to be able to actually teach my kid gymnastics.  It's not possible if I let my weight get out of control.

Stay positive... And remember DON'T DIET! Diets are for dummies.  Just make positive food choices. :)

Small meals. Tons of them. That's what i used to do amd i actually lost 10 pounds before i started gaining again.  I had days where i didn't eat an actually sit down meal but i was never hungry,  plus tons of water.  Now I'm just a pig cuz I'm almost 38 wks and nothing seem to fill me up!

The sugars in fruit is a lot different than table sugar, and are metabolized differently.  Fruits are essential, and nobodies gotten fat from eating fruit.
Cut out ALL foods with high fructose corn syrup.  There's a lot of food that contain it, and it's a huge contributer to diabetes and obesity.
Drink LOTS of water, you're supposed to drink 2L a day, and I think when pregnant it should be more.  If you're craving pop or something sugary, dilute some juice with water, like cranberry juice, to help prevent UTIs.
Keep your diet BALANCED so you get all the nutrients you need. Vitamins don't replace what you don't eat, only supplement it.  Try to make sure every meal contains all the good groups.

Pooklet... Too much of anything can be a bad thing... Including fruit.  Yes natural sugars are metabolized differently but you can still end up diabetic from eating too much. Like I said, some fruits are much higher in sugar than others.

I do agree though that high fructose corn syrup is terrible.  Reading food labels is the best way to avoid that.
