Is exercise safe?

Hi Fam! I am 34 years old and a FTM. I'm 6weeks along and have gained an extra 10kg. Doctor placed me on bed rest and as a result I had to halt all forms of exercise during this period. When can I resume my normal routine? I also would like to loose these pesky 10kg in my first trimester. Is it ok to sort of embark on a healthy diet to shed this additional weight? Please help.

You definitely shouldn't worry about losing weight, and I'm sure any doctor will tell you the same. You will be gaining more as you go along and do not fret over it bc it is essential for you and the baby to have all those extra calories and nutrients. However, it is important to do something like yoga or walking as Katie mentioned, bc it actually helps with labor when you stay in shape, but you should definitely not be exercising to lose weight, just to stay healthy and fit. But also as Katie mentioned be sure to talk to your doctor before starting Any kind of exercise routine, especially if you have been put on bed rest at any point in the pregnancy. Good luck to you!! Oh, and fyi you'd be amazed at how fast the baby weight drops off after you give birth (at least for me it did) so go ahead and indulge a little for now and don't let it bother you. :-)

I couldn't tell you lol. Your dr might say yes you can exercise but you are only able to do this and this... like stretches or sit on one of those big balls or yoga.. or he might say no exercise.. good luck to you :)

Whenever he pulls you from bed rest be sure to ask him about exercise.  He may say walking only or you can go all out. There might be a few things you can do now but definitely ask before doing anything.
