Group B strep is the main bacteria they swab for. It can naturally live in our vaginal tracks. Check with your doctor and make sure it wasn't this. Most women don't have symptoms of it but it can be passed to baby during birth and can cause a serious infection for him or her. They treat it with antibiotics before birth so your system is clear when baby is born. But even if you don't have any symptoms of it, it's still very important to treat and keep baby safe.
Good luck.
I'm 28 weeks and I just got the swab done. She didn't mention anything about passing it to the baby, just that they would treat it if I had itchness or dishcharge or discomfort. Must be a different thing then?
Hmmm not sure. I had a swab and I ended up having gbs which is apparently some bacteria that is harmless but needs to be treated before the baby comes out. I didn't even know I had it until I went into labor and the hospital said I had it and gave me penicillin. I had done the swab at my ob's office a couple weeks before my due date.
I googled it, the name doesn't sound like what the nurse said.
What's gbs? The nurse said it fast, I caught gar-something
