24 ish years ago there was one of the biggest solar eclipse that year all the plants died and a lot of children and animals were born with pieces of skin missing my cousin being one of them was born with cleft lip. So it sounds stupid but I'd rather be safe than sorry

There isnt any truth to this. Babies have been born since the world has been. That means the rate of birth defects would be higher. Birth defects are caused by genetics not the moon. I won't be wearing a pin or red!

Lol,@naru89 now that I hadn't heard! ^_^
I bet if I mentioned it to my hubby he'd probably stay away from me, :P
The full moon (supposedly) sends moms into labor. The eclipse (supposedly) causes birth defects.  That's what I grew up, I now joke with my mom about carrying my whole set of keys in my underwear just for the fun of the jingle, lol -of course I wouldn't but her expression is priceless. :P

My grandma is Mexican and always told me this during my pregnancies.  Im sure I'll receive a phone call today reminding me about a pin. I personally don't believe in superstition.  All my kids have no cleft lips etc. I've never done it. But to each its own :)

I see no possible way this could be scientifically true. First, all women pregnant during that period would give birth to "defect" babies, and that's never happened.  Second, wearing something on your clothing has no effect on the baby or your body (unless it's lead or radioactive or something lol). I'd say, at best, it's another interesting superstition.

Ive heard this all my life as well, I'm 34 weeks but I'm not taking any chances wether ppl believe it or not. My aunts were born with birth defects due to this from what my grandma really believes since she never knew about it since she was so young when having her children. A safety pin with a lil key and I just found out about the red panties.

My husband is from Mexico and there he says women always wear a pin during pregnancy. My last pregnancy he kept sneaking pins onto all my clothes and it was so frustrating because I had to keep taking them off. But I don't put much into superstition. And as for a lunar eclipse I don'trreally see how it would have any effect on baby.

If you watch a lunar eclipse during your pregnancy, your baby will have a cleft lip

This ancient myth has been traced back to the Aztecs. They believed that an eclipse was a bite on the face of the moon. If a mother watched it, the same thing would happen to her baby. For protection, the mom must carry something metallic, such as a safety pin, on her underwear. Although it's a beautiful myth, the truth is that a cleft palate is caused by a blend of genetic and environmental factors that in no way include the planets.

........
Just found this on baby center when I googled.
