I've had sweeps with 3 of my 4 pregnancies. Twice it worked within 24hrs (40+3 and 40+5) but with my last pregnancy I had one at 40+1 which didn't work, I had another at 41 wks which worked within the 24hrs. If baby and your body are ready then it will work very effectively but like every other method, if everything is not ready, it won't. Good luck :)

I'll be 39 weeks tomorrow and my doctor won't even consider it till my next appointment witch will be on my due date but I don't want it done cause they say it's best to keep baby in till at least 39 weeks if you can help it they actually have studies that prove babies that make it to there due date have longer life spands but if your doctors willing it's your call I hope all goes well best of luck!

I realize baby is full term at 37 weeks as I have one of my own. All I said is that a lot of doctors don't do sweeps at 37 weeks, cause they like to keep the baby in as long as they can. Everyone is tired near the end, but it should be up to the baby to decide when to come.

My friend had it done 4 times I think she said it hurts....she still ended up needing to get induced at 42 weeks

I had it done at 38 weeks with my second. It was uncomfortable but not painful. My son was born 10 hrs after having it done. I was also already 3 cm and 75% effaced so that may have played a part.

Why not wait until you're 40 or 41 weeks instead? It's a light method of induction that may or may not work, and can be painful, so maybe just consider leaving everything alone for a few more weeks to begin on it's own? Fir

I had mine done with my first. It hurts, but hey being pregnant hurts. I was then scheduled for an induction the next morning, and thats when i had my first REAL contraction. I got to the hospital and patocin and epidural later. It was all smooth sailing from there. I am currently 38+3 with boy #2, im really hoping they will do a sweep wed. at appt:)

37 weeks seems early to have your membranes swept...most doctors won't do that til after 38 weeks...some won't do it til you're overdue...why are you having it done so early?

Yes it hurt and it didn't help for me. It's like everything else that's supposed to help if your body isn't ready it's isn't going to do it. I did it at 38 weeks. After that I stated acupuncture after the first session my baby dropped after the second I went in to labor in 24 hours. My husband was going to have to leave for work on my due date so I was trying everything that was safe to try lol.
