Mildly disappointed

I'm 24 weeks, failed my 1 hour glucose by 1 point. 1 point!!!! I know a line in the sand is needed for a screening test but that 1 point means that I have to be NPO at midnight on a 24 hour in house call shift. After 18 hours on my feet I really need food, nuts, gum to stay awake and running for the rest 6 -8 hours left in that 24.

Yes I know ppl have it worse and I have worked longer then that with no naps too. It just that I was able to eat though.

I wish I wasn't feeling so whiny.

Thanks. Everyone
They know what shift I'll be doing it starts at 6 am Monday and ends 7 am on Tuesday. I will be NPO only for 8 hours. Sorrry for the confusion, it's just the end part it can be hard without snacking. I know ppl have done it before and will do it after me.  Just felt whiny.

Hopefully the next test will be negative. Maybe this will motivate me to fit in some exercise somewhere. :)

Make sure that the NPO still applies if you work midnight shifts.  They may be giving you the generic info that they tell everyone else who working day hours because that's the "norm".  It may be that the just want you NPO for 8-10 hours, which for you is not 8am.

It is better to be safe than sorry... I failed my 1hr glucose test by 5 points... I was like, seriously?!?!? 5 points!!!! I took the 3hr and passed 2 of the 4 blood tests... the fasting and the 3 hour one (total of 4 blood tests- 1 fasting and then every hour...  the 2nd and 3rd test I failed by 20-25 points... my doctor said if you fail 2 or more its gestational diabetes.... I have to monitor it with my diet and check my sugar levels 4 times a day

I don't want to be hard on you but if your 1 hour glucose test is that close it is better to be safe. I passed mine ont my first pregnancy  and ended up having gestational diabetes. My son was 10lbs 11oz and was in the NICU for 5weeks. He is 13 now but he has moderate to severe hearing loss and cerebral palsy. I don't want to scare you, but It's important to be careful with that stuff.  Good luck and I hope you don't have to complications. Just be sure to take care of yourself.
