Moses baskets - yes or no?

My bf isn't keen on getting one as he says they rarely get used by people. I'm now considering one since the midwife said about the baby sleeping in our room. I'm looking on them on Gumtree & some ppl say 'hardly used'.

If we don't get one, it means the baby will be sleeping in a cot in her own room from coming home. Is that safe? I've heard the earlier they are in their own room, the better they settle. I've also heard having the baby in your room for the first few weeks or months reduces the risk of cot death as they listen to your breathing.

What has everyone done r.e sleeping arrangements?

I havnt had my baby yet but I can gaurentee natural instinct will cause me to want the baby in the room with me at least for the first few months. I say yes to moses basket u probs won't need it for long but they're not expensive.

Look up a rock n play! I put this next to my bed with my first and we loved it! She had colic and spit up a lot and it helps because it keeps them reclined. She used that til I was ready to put her in her crib. I highly recommend it!

I'm thinking of getting a recliner for the baby room and sleeping in there. That way my hubby can sleep. It's what one of my friends did.

Sorry, posted prematurely!

What I was meant to say was, we got one for £15 second hand from PreLoved. Just bought a new mattress and bedding for it so it was a pretty cheap but worthwhile purchase. Also, with a moses basket, if baby needs to sleep when you are in a different room, it's easily transportable for the first 6 months while s/he is in it :)

Thankyou ladies! X

I've never heard of a pack n play but will have a google of that.

I'm a ftm too, as you've probably guessed. Putting the cot in the bedroom is a no-go unfortunately cos either side of the bed is about 2-3 foot of space and between the foot of the bed and wardrobe is about 5foot of space.

I have seen some rocking ones & been wondering about them. On Gumtree moses baskets are selling on average about £15, some cheaper. I think I need to talk the boss into getting one ;-) but I don't think he'll change his mind :-/

Natie that sounds really lovely & a wonderful thing to do!

We got a Moses basket from a family member, and we plan on putting our baby in the Moses basket to sleep so more secure, but we are going to place the basket in the crib! (Or at least try too! ) that way baby used to sleeping in nursery as well!  I'm a ftm so we will see if this works out right away!

We just got a pack n play and set it up next to our bed. She will sleep there the first 3 weeks till my husband goes back to work. then ill transition her to her own room that way he wont wake her up in the morning. Ftm so I don't know if it will work but that's the plan. Oh and we were given a moses basket and I don't think we will use it much

Ive only ever heard of people keeping the baby next to them for the first 6 months then transferring them from mam and dads room to their own. I think you would be advised by everyone to keep your baby with you. My first two babies didnt get that long out of moses basket about 3 to 4 months then they went into the cot. I then invested in a moses basket from mamas and papas for my 3rd and he stayed in it up until he was about 7 month (however he refuses to sleep on his own) this time ive gone for the very large wicker moses with drapes as id like to keep it to pass onto my children sort of like a family tradition and its huge so im hoping baby will be in it for a while. You could consider putting cot up in your room for a while.
