My 3 year old

My son just turned three and I was wondering if he should be talking completely clear? He can count an he talks in sentences but it's a little jibberish.. My husband is making me feel like he is not where he should be.

He might be a bit behind, I would talk to his pediatrician, he may need to see a speech therapist.

Let me start by saying, he is just fine & awesome on the counting!  I have a degree in early childhood education/special education and children's speech really progresses at different rates.  As long as he is using up to 3 word phrases and is 50% understandable by a stranger,he is doing well!  My professor always used to use the example that if you were to take your child to McDonalds and let them order their own Happy Meal, that the server should be able to make out most of what your child is saying (mom may need to interpret a little).  Hope that helps!  If you still have concerns talk to your pediatrician and they can refer you to a speech & language specialist for evaluation!  Good Luck :)

My son will be 3 in September. He can count some numbers and say a few things but has a cousin born 4 weeks after him that can talk and you can clearly understand him. We kept getting told by family members that he's gonna need speech therapy because his daddy did when he was little. But honestly, to me I don't think he will. His cousin has two older sisters that try to mother him so I believe that to be why he's able to talk more. My 1yr old catches on quick because of my 2yr old.

I couldn't tell you how many times I've had to explain to them that each child is independently different when it comes to learning things. Some catch on faster than others. Doesn't always mean something is wrong. It started to really get me upset after a while. He has only been on this earth for 2 & 1/2 years. He's not supposed to sound like an adult already. Some talk more than others. But if he's trying to talk and can count some, etc.. I think he's fine. Some stay in the gibberish stage longer than others but he will eventually be clear. Don't worry about it :)

Yes he can not say every thing right. He has no siblings and his dog is his best friend! I have always talked to him as an adult but his words are not always placed right and pronouncing is just hard for him!

My oldest nephew only said 3 words (not exaggerating) at the age of 3... everyone told my sister he was slow and made her feel terrible... one day he woke up talking like an adult and is now a very intelligent 15 year old who talks constantly... if it would ease your mind you can ask your pedi to refer you to a speech therapist to have him evaluated but that would be more to appease hubby because every child develops on their time not anyone else

Is it because he can't pronounce all of his consonants correctly?  Because if so, that's fairly normal, especially for boys.
