Nail polish during labor?

Do any of you ladies know if it's alright to wear nail polish (specifically gel/shellac polish) during labor? I'm due in 5 days and feeling really blah, so I was thinking of treating myself, but don't want to spend the money if they're going to make me take it off when I get to the hospital.

It seems to depend on hospital. The regular polish is a good idea. I know some hospitals want clean nails for the o2 sensor and also in the event of complications they want to be able to see your nail bed colour. A lot of registration paperwork will include a line that says no nail polish. But it seems like more and more hospitals are allowing it nowadays.

Thank you for your responses! I just feel so yucky and gigantic, and want to do something nice for myself. Maybe I'll just do regular polish, that way they can take it off easily if they need to.

Call and ask if it's a random treat and you probably weren't wearing them when you registered... They probably didn't mention it. I treated myself to Mani pedi with just normal polish and my real shorter nails, it was so nice!! I'd be worried about scratching baby...

I had acrylic nails when I delivered my first baby. They said I could not but I did anyways. They also said I could not wear jewelry of any kind and I left all mine on even my body jewelry.

Can't at my hospital. They tell you at pre registration at the hospital normally.

I wore nail polish when I gave birth to my first son. They never said anything about it. I think a lot of people do.

They may take it off of one finger for the oxygen monitor that they put on the finger. I had to with my first.
