Natural, non medicated birth?

I'm sure 100s of women ask this question here, and there's always an answer that says "depends on how much I can take, in terms of pain".
But i really wanna know that one tip, trick or advise u think works when it comes to a natural birth.
I have been determined about going to natural, ever since I found out I was pregnant. I'm a FTM and I'm really nervous too!
I need some support, and a better understanding of the process. I wanna accomplish this!
Please help me, tell me how should I keep myself on going non medicated?
I'm not gonna intervene doctors advise or procedures, as the may come but if given a choice I wd like to just go natural, like my mom and grandma n MIL.

@babyacorn: Yes I agree with you, when ever I go into a tub its always a pleasure to be able to relax. I can I surely imagine it would be a great help whike in labour.
Birthing centre/home birth are not my options for this time, maybe if we a plan on a second baby soon, I will definitely look into those
Its the encouragement that's lacking around me, I feel more n more people are birthing with the help of Medicines and it leaves them with only one advise, epidural.
But u ladies here are great empowerment.

Surround yourself with positive people who encourage and support your decision to go natural

Water, water, water! I looooved the weightlessness felt as I laboured and delivered at home in water. I'm talking a full, deep birthing pool. None of this bathtub stuff, so uncomfy and awkward to be half in the water. The deeper the better for floating in between contractions :) We don't have birthing centers here and no hospital water births, so I opted for a home birth. Best decision, during transition I wanted meds or anything, but there's no meds at a home birth, so I just had to tough it out. There's nothing more empowering than giving birth med free, good luck momma you can do it! Oh and empowering thoughts and statements help a lot! there are lots of them on google :) I also second youngladyday14 physical heal is super important!

Wow, Many interesting answers!
This is great!
I hate to talk about this to my friends as they demoralize my idea to go natural, as they dint.
I'm not saying one us better than the other, but I just always felt that natural wd work the best for me. Offcourse if everything goes well, which do far it has! I'm very close to the end, have been super duper active thus entire pregnancy, and now would definitely look up some of those books u ladies pointed, n the movie.
I am so thankful to u all taking out time, responding to me. U don't know how much I needed this support! Please keep me in ur prayers, I really wanna go for this! I wish u all the very best as well!
Thanku thanku n thanku all! :)

Watch the movie "the business of being born", if it peaks your interest, read the book "Your best birth". From a lot of women's experience, it seems that the pitocin being used to "help" accelerate labor has the effect of  contractions that are longer, more painful, more frequent, making the pain medication necessary, or more welcome.
After reading up on the frequency of natural births in hospitals, I found that they are a rare occurrence , depending on hospital protocols. If you have a low risk pregnancy, maybe you could look into birthing centers as an alternative to a hospital experience, to reduce the likelihood of unnecessary interventions.

My friend did hypno birthing and she swears by it. She was in active labor for a really long time so i guess maybe try that out.

I read the book Natural child birth the Bradley Way. His method has a 95% success rate. The book teaches the different steps off labor and techniques for getting through it. I recommend reading it.

They have birthing classes that can help you with that... my mom had unmedicated births with 3 of her 5 children... the 1st 2 (my sister and I) were born through c section... my stepmom also went unmedicated... with my first I had an epidural because I didn't know what to expect and this time I plan on pain medication with no epidural. ..

I'm a ftm but since I'm doing homebirth I was curious about that too.  My husband and I took birth classes at the birth center & they covered a lot about that & taught us some tricks with a rizobo (sp?), and taught our husbands how to find & push on the sacroiliac (again spelling?) joint, or how to push our hips up to open up our pelvis & relieve pain... we also did some breathing & talked about laboring in warm water  etc...

Anyway, my long winded point: check & see if a free standing birth center near you offers birth classes.  They would be more likely to provide & teach naturalpain relief techniques vs a hospital or hospital affiliated birth center.

I would say to look into getting a doula to help you out. Remember that everything is your choice and your decision.  Dont let anyone scare you into anything that is unnecessary. Do a little more research on natural birth. Good luck.

I say prep ur body b4. My 1st I had her natural, but was very active. I feel like back in the old days women wrked on the farm. Walked places. In general a lot more active than we are. There's key muscles used in labor. Strengthen them just like ur training for an event. Also things like kegel excercise, pernieal massage, squat and pregnancy stretches are helpful. Certain vitamins and minerals are also linked to easier labor. Our babies suck so much out of it's crucial we replenish it. Jope that helps some. Wish you well dear!
