Thanks for sharing ladies I definately appreciate it and feel a lot more interested in water birth now
(plus those types of courses give great ideas for how your partner can help and support you). Other thing is when I first got in with my first birth I actually didn't like how the water seemed to take the pressure off my belly, and bub seemed to lift up a bit (almost like floating), and I had more pressure in my lungs... but the water reduced the pain and then after a couple of contractions baby moved down again and I was fine. Just thought I'd mention it!
Waterbirths helped me heaps! As soon as I got in I felt instant relief, pain going from 9 to a 5...(they recommended waiting until the pain was getting unbearable before getting into the water). Didn't need any other pain relief, but I was very determined that I wouldn't and I think going in with that mindset makes it easier to cope too. I did Calmbirth which was very helpful (Australian version of hypnobirth, hypnobabies etc) and would definitely recommend something similar... Very different from the hospital birth classes they run!
My first was a water birth. At a birthing center. Hubby wasn't in the tub with me but every place is a little different. I had a great experience and plan on doing the same with number 2. I strongly recommend HypnoBabies in prep for an all natural birth. When we finally got to the center with my first I was 8cm and she was born within an hour. HypnoBabies kept me very calm and focused through that craziness. Good luck!
Aww thanks i feel slighlty better about a water birth now...
I had a water birth with my first baby and I'm currently pregnant with my second and would love to have another water birth. I found it much easier to cope with the pain while in the pool, I didn't even feel the need for gas and air. I definitely recommend it.
