It actually is not a good idea to check your cervix when you are preterm because multiple exams can irritate your cervix and cause dilation. If your dr said you are closed than you should probably trust him or her. While it is true that cervical exams can be slightly subjective based on finger size a closed cervix is closed. Any dr or nurse who has OB training will call it closed. Plus it is probably pretty posterior at this point meaning it's hard to reach. When you are ovulating and not pregnant it comes more to the front making conception easier so you probably were able to reach it. I wouldn't check it any more and trust your medical providers. (I am a L&D RN)
It's is fine to check you cervix so long as you water hasn't broken yet. It's close to the same thing as having sex. Just don't stick you finger in if you are dilated.
Well I know what I'm feeling because I have checked it in the past before my pregnancy when I was trying to get pregnant I am a curious person and I like to know my whole body plus I work as a nursing assistant in a hospital which makes me more curious about the human body and the changes it goes through I also know it's not harmful some ppl believe it is it's your own opinion but I don't believe it is, it's not any more unsafe for me to check my own cervix then it would be to let a Dr check it and or having other objects inside of me just saying ...I was asking for the fact that I never felt a cervix that has dilated and from what I've read I thought I was feeling a small opening I've had in the past drs tell me I was not dilated and nurses tell me I was... Assuming there finger sizes are different you get different results ..?
I check from time to time. I wash my hands really good and poke around in there mainly to feel if my baby has dropped which he hasn't yet. I'm 38+5 wks and so far nothing. I know that once he drops that will get the ball rollin for me, to cause my cervix to dilate and lose my plug and labor will be imminent. That's for me, cuz this is my second pregnancy and believe the series of events won't be exact, but similar.
You shouldnt check your own cervix, how would you even know what exactly youre feeling for,it should be left to your doctor
It's never safe to check ur own cervix hun
