Everyone is different.  But I think for everyone, one thing that is true, is that you KNOW something major is going on.  I had always wondered if I'd be able to tell.  Oh yes, I could.  Contractions hurt like heck.  They are much more intense (in my opinion) than Braxton hicks contractions.  I had a lot of potty time too and discharge almost like I was cleaning out pre labor.  But how it all goes specifically for you will be unique.  good luck hon

With my first... I didn't  "know" as others say ohhh you will know!!!

I had no cramping,  no BH. No loss of mucus plug, absolutely nothing through out pregnancy.  The day before due date, these very very very strong cramps came out of no weRe.  Around 3 pm. I didn't know what was going on. I just knew I was in paiN.  Called my mother instead of my OB. by the time she answered of course cramps had stopped.  We talked for about 5 min then right before hanging up they hit again!!  By mother could tell, as she said it's time!! On on my way to get you. Had my daughter 19 hours later on my due date. So there we're no signs of labor leading up for me.

With my son, I was 2 cm dilated for 4 weeks ,  loss of musus plug @ 36 weeks and lose stool.  But... we got induced at 39 weeks by choice.  So I didn't go into labor naturally.

This pregnancy,  I'm 38+4 right now, 3 cm have had lose stool for a few weeks, contractions as L&D confirmed. But still in the first stage of labor (0-3) second stage is (4-7) and final is (8-10) then birth.

We are getting induced Wednesday due to GD. so luckily we are almost through the first stage. Faster labor!!

As the other woman said every woman, and every pregnancy is different.  Once the time comes you'll have your own experience.

& remember when in doubt call Ob/ midwife with any questions or to be checked out. Thats what they are there for!!! Also  keep in mind only 5% of babies are born on their due date. EED is just a guess and is off by two weeks anyway.  Counting your Dr gos by your lmp.  So example,  if your 34 weeks then baby is only 32. Thats why MOST  drs will wait to induce at 42 weeks. Good luck!!!

It really depends actually because not all labors are the same. I've had 4 and they were all different. But basically contractions is the main sign, bloody show for some, pressure, back pain, and sometimes your body just goes completely crazy like with my last where I even had diarrhea and vomiting. My niece her water broke but she never had any pains or any other then the leaking. But definitely when in doubt call your Dr or go to l&d. Good luck
