I attempted natural childbirth with my first. My water broke though and my birth plan went out the window. My OB didn't allow me to walk or leave the bed for any reason not even to pee. This increased my anxiety which increased pain in my opinion. My husband had to hold me over a bed pan. Nothing went as planned. For the first 10 hrs I had no pain relief except a narcotic which only dulled the the 1 contraction after it was administered. When I finally got an epidural I was relieved and sorely disappointed that I did. But the pain was excruciating to say the least. There was only an hour and a half after thatto complete dilation. Two pushes and he was out. Not to scare you but it was like the worst menstrual cramps on steroids, meth, crack and PCP. And I have bad cramps. Now that I write this I wonder why I'm doing it again. This time I'm using nurse midwives, attempting natural again. I'll be in the hospital but they share my philosophy on natural childbirth. Docs and anesthesiologists will be there if necessary, but I think if I'm relaxed it will be easier. Even if my water breaks I can labor at home as long as I need to and I'll still be able to move around in the hospital. I'm having a water birth this time. So in summary educate yourself, find a provider who's on the same page as you (midwives usually take a holistic approach), have good labor support like a doula, relax and don't beat yourself up if it doesn't go according to plan.
Very helpful. Thanks. :)) Still scared. Ahhhhh.
I've got lots of tattoos to which didn't hurt. But my water broke with my son and my contractions were not coming so they needed to give me pitocin. When the contractions started they hit hard and were painful, they dont gradually come, they just hit you hard. I couldn't deal with it. After 45 minutes I gave up and asked for the epidural. I describe the pain like severe diarrhea cramps x10. I hope for me with this pregnancy that the contractions come nauturally so the pain is more tolerable so I don't have to have the epidural. I didn't have issues with last epidural but I've heard stories of complications afterwards which scares me.
Also keep walking, moving about n rocking on ur hands n knees it will help ur pelvis be more flexible
I had my first with pethidine which helps calm u and helps ease the pain but doesn't numb it like epidurals do, I suggest walking around alot I couldn't lay in the bed, I kno alot of women that couldn't either best thing to do is to find a position comfy for urself m breathe through ur contractions, I was induced which app makes for more painful contractions but if ur comfy n breathe through them that helped me, as for the pushing part I found that easier than the contractions because your relieveing the pressure caused by contractions, yes it burns.. alot but the midwife was so good and chilled which was so calming, 3 pushes n he was out after 8 hrs of labour, which also seemed less than that, sorry for long comment but hope it helps
