Newborns and pool water?

At what age did you take your baby swimming or rather sitting around in a pool with mum or dad?My son started swimming lessons at 6mths and his swim school takes them at 4mths, but can I take the baby in a pool before then? Its so stinking hot here, we've just been through one heatwave and I think summer is going to be awful. Just trying to think of ways to keep the baby cool when it arrives.

Just watch out for the chlorine drying out baby skin.

My son had his first river splashes at three months old and first ocean beach adventure at four months. It didn't get warm enough to go until then (he was a March baby and we live in New England) but this baby is due in late June so it'll definitely happen sooner with this little squish. Big brother won't tolerate skipping the beach all summer so we'll make it work.

My first was 3 months old. We held her in a saltwater pool at my parents. It was great and she loved it.

Thanks for replying bump_2_be! This qld weather seems to get hotter every year, although the storms do help a little to bring the temperature back down (and the humidity up!). About 4wks was what I was thinking, a Christmas dip in the pool :)

I had the same question a while ago and was told its fine.  My lo was about 4 wks at the time. But I have only dipped her legs in for now. I just dont want my lo to get to cold haha. Qld weather has been a bit crazy lately.

You can take baby in I just would watch their face so they don't swallow the water. I'm guess you don't live in the USA haha
