No milk by day 4? will it come in??

Has anyone not had their milk come in by day 4? She is almpst 3 weeks early. I've only had a few ml here and there. My breasts  do feel slightly heavier today (hope that's not wishful thinking) has anyone dealt with this? My Dr came to discharge me from hospital today and says chance it just doesn't work and will have to keep using formula (have had to bc she is almost 3 weeks early and her blood sugar was low)
So dissapointed :( but I will carry on if it does not go as planned. I have my baby and that's all that matters.

Keep your child near your breast as much as possible,  I was told that it help the brain send the message to make milk, even go through the motion as if you had milk!

Try eating/swallowing small amounts of Tymol seeds which is an indian spice. Its safe and helps produce milk naturally.

99% of the time you don't really need to introduce formula. Doing so interferes with milk production. The more baby nurses the more milk you'll make. What you get from a pump is not representative of what baby can get out

yeah..i couldnt use the pump very well..i always hand expressed..i felt like a cow but it came out so much quicker that way..it looks like shes enjoying her feeds from you..so as soon as u can quit the formula..its honestly way easier to let them feed than pump..keep doing what ur doing..considering everything i think.ur doing a brill job!

I will also say that breast stimulation makes milk come in so if you are not stimulating you breast it will tqke longer to come in. When i didnt breast feed my average of milk coming In was 3-4 days. Possible try hand expressing your milk to stimulate your breast

Just keep pumping every 2 hours thats the beat things you can do. With my son I always tried nurse. If he didnt take breast i would pump every 2 hours id either feed or pump and I did not get much out with pumping but I still stuck to it by 8 weeks old my son was nursing well n no more pump. It was stressful but I stuck with it. Good luck

Thank you everyone. It really means a lot. Evrry 3 hours the hospital had me put her to each breast first, then formula (bc of low blood sugar), and then pump 15 to 20 min each side. I'm at home now on day 5 and still doing this. My breasts are noticiably larger and harder today. I'm using the next size pump cup but still only getting 5ml total each pumping session. I'm drinking 1 cup of the Mothers Milk with fenu  Greek and blessed thistle plus 1 cup water every 3 hours.
Just can't help but cry bc it isn't working yet. She looks so peaceful and happy when she gets my milk and turns up her nose and makes sour face with formula . :(

I was in the same situation. I used formula but I also pumped every 3 hours. Drink lots of water and just keep trying.

Do not formula feed at this point. Otherwise chances are tour milk wont come in prooerly. Keep feeding often.   If your breasts are starting to feel heavy it means your milk is starting to come in, the more you feed the more your supply will build. Dont forget babies tummies are tiny to start off with so it is 100% normal to be feeding often. Fenugreek with blessed thistle is said to help with supply also. Best of luck

You have to pump and it's very surprising that the nurses at the hospital or lactation specialist wouldn't have came in to help you with that I had my twins 3 months earlier and still had milk it was slow the first couple of days but you breast need to be stimulated if not by a baby by a pump. Don't get discouraged your body will do exactly what it is supposed to do you just have to help it a little bit#

I hope yours does come in. Not to worry you bit mine never came in. We waited almost a week and a half before having to give her formula because she was literally starving. The most I ever produced was a quarter ounce between both breasts. We tried everything.  Some women just can't do it for some reason. Try not to blame yourself or get too upset if you're one of the few who can't.  I am hoping I will be able to now with baby number 2.  Good luck mommy

Mine cane in on day 5 with my first. I just kept her at the breast all day and it FINALLY came in! I chose not to supplement, but she was full term and didn't have blood sugar issues. She and I both felt much better on day 5!

Drink lots of water and relax. Babe only need a reason at a time right now it will come. Put baby to the breast skin on skin and let here she just suckle they will get some will come whatever you do don't supplement with formula unless you intend to switch over because you need to keep her on the breast in order to keep you stimulated

My milk didn't come in until day 5 with both of my previous babies. Just don't give up! They usually say it takes 2-5 days to get it.
