baby sleep schedule

Im a ftm so i have a million questions. One of which is, when do babies start to sleep on schedule? I know all babies are different and it varies but is there an average? 4 months? 6 months? Im worried about the long nights filled with crying, especially since I've never done this before. My boyfriend works nights so im worried ill feel like Im all on my own.

I have my baby sleeping in my room i wouldnt be able to have him sleep in a different room especially knowing that he is too little and he still has the risk of SIDs but well thats me i just think that is better for now, when he gets older and i know that he is not at high risk for SIDs then he can sleep in his own room but for now i rather be safe then sorry

My daughter did not self soothe. She needed contact and parenting to sleep. Don't abandon your baby just to try to get it to sleep. My daughter slept in my room and did great. I'm not the kind of mother who would be able to sleep with my baby in a different room. My daughter also slept at night, waking to feed, from the beginning. My friend's son was on a sleep in the day awake at night schedule at first, so it just depends on the baby. You'll learn your baby's needs really quickly and fall into a routine that works for you both! Enjoy this time, they grow so very fast! :)

A lot of babies do it right at the beginning.  Just have a bedtime routine like bath, bottle, little rocking, then put them in the crib. Dont let them sleep in your room. Baby has to learn to self soothe so they should fall asleep by themselves in their bed. Dont wake them to do middle of the night feedings unless they want it.

New born are up on average every 2 hours to eat, but generally as they get bigger and older they should sleep a little longer between feedings. My two daughters didn't sleep through the night until they were 2-2 1/2, my son on the other hand was a great sleeper and he was sleeping through the night by time he was 3 months, and prior to that only woke to eat every 3-4 hours. My hubby works vaca relief at his job and his hours constantly change, and because my son was born in October he was working a lot of nights...but overall I was able to handle things. Have your boyfriend take the baby for a little bit when he gets home in the morning so you can get some solid sleep time, and he gets some one on one time with the baby, that helped me, and take naps with the baby when you can. Believe it or not your body adjusts to getting up to feed, our bodies begin to prepare for that before they are here.
