Not sure how to handle this...

So, I've posted before about having alot of back pain. It's not just pregnancy related but the belly sure does exacerbate things. I've tried supportive shirts, bending/laying/moving differently, every type if otc pain med that we're allowed to take, my mom went out and bought me a belly band but that thing was so uncomfortable I couldn't deal with it, tired warm baths, massages, warming gels, talking to my doc, every d*mn thing I can think of and nothing is helping. There r times when I'm completely immobilized and I can't have that. I'm a stay at home mom, I got a 1 1/2yr old and an *ssload of chores I have to do daily. I have to b able to move, period. Well, my mil gave me one of her prescription pills. I looked it up and it's a 5mg one and everything I read says it's generally ok to take as long as I'm not going overboard. However, I still haven't taken it bc I'm scared they'll drug test the baby when I have him and then I'll get in trouble. What should I do? Should I just wait and deal and try talking to my doc again, or will I b ok? I'm so confused and worried but I hurt soooo bad. (Sorry for the long post)

I have been 36 weeks with my first.. I have only had my fourth daughter tested and that was because my Dr gave me Percocet at high doses through out my entire pregnancy all the way up till the day I delivered they thought for sure she would have withdraws. I had to consent which I did because I was not hiding nothing and the test came back negative. I took it everyday during my pregnancy until the day I went into labor and she tested negative on her drug screen for any drugs.... there is no reason to suffer, tell them just what you said on here, that you have so much to do and you just can't take the sh*t no more. That is what I did and my Dr gave me a script every three days to keep me out of pain...

36 weeks or earlier. They always test them to find out causes and explanations...

@kolbysmom just out of curiosity, what constitutes early? I know before 37wks is considered preterm but both of my sons were born before my actual due date and nothing was ever particularly wrong with the pregnancy. (First son was a week. I was dilating and contracting but they had to break my water. Second was a week and a half early. My water broke but I wasn't contracting enough so they gave me pictocin).....

Maybe go.to the emergency room.if you can't wait.untill your apt and tell them nothing helps and list everything you've tried..... But it's def. Going to get worse the bigger you get especially if it's that bad now.

And ok. I have an appt in like a week so I'll just bring it up again when I go. The thing is still just sitting there. Maybe they'll listen. I hope so bc I really can'thhandle this sh*t anymore. I have a really high pain tolerance so normally I just say f it but this not being able to move thing can't happen. Once, ok. Twice even..ok. But multiple times a week and without my husband or anyone that can possibly help me? I can't have that. Not with a little one running around.

About 24wks and all research I've done says it's fine in moderation and that pregnant women r generally prescribed them during pregnancy due to pain. I've known lots of women who have gotten them during pregnancy including my sil. I'm only hesitant bc I already get looked at weird bc of my tattoos.... I've never been a drug person, or a drinking person, socially or otherwise for that matter. I'm not big on medicine in general, I tough out colds, allergies, stomach issues, whatever. But it's getting out of hand...obviously...else I wouldn't have tried otc's.  And yoga I don't rightly have time for. My only free time is late at night and by then, I'm so exhausted and in so much pain, I just lay on the couch until my husband gets home and we go to bed. When my little one naps, I spend that time trying to get a shower, and do any cleaning or chores that I can't do while he's up, like laundry (bc I gotta go down almost three flights of stairs) or using chemicals.

Yea definitely talk to your Doctor first. Explain how bad it is what you're tried etc. I would really recommend yoga as well. I love my yoga dvd and helps my back and sciatica! :-)

I agree with not taking the pill and telling your doctor you need something for the pain. Don't ask, tell her exactly how bad it is.

Anything including percocet Is tested for. Now.if you go to a emergency room and get the dr to give it.to.you it's OK. But if you have no proof of a doctor giving it to you and the test you it will be a bad outcome. I work as a ob nurse So I know that if for any reason your baby is born early or has any issues then they do automatically drug test the baby and do not need consent. My.best friend.works in pain management and she also said that the sensitivity the tests can show the mg and timeline when it was taken. I do also know that around 20 weeks they do test us. They need our consent but im sure it'd be a issue if you denied it. Maybe call your ob and see if they will allow you to take it? That way there'd be a record of it or something.  Goodluck!

personally, I wouldn't use those prescription pills by MIL. because if it shows in a hospital drug test and can get me into trouble, that means it's probably not good for the baby.

how far along are you?

If it is loratab or Percocet I would go ahead and take it... it would help with the pain and they don't stay too long in system... I have been having trouble with my hip, it stiffens up and makes it hard to walk. If you just take it once for a little relief you should be fine and can explain it away by saying you had it in your medicine cabinet from a old prescription and could not take the pain anymore.  I know how you feel I have so much to do and have a bad back and the hip pain, and when pregnant I get kidney stones.. there is so much to do and the pain makes it hard to function. A lot of people on here will tell you not to take a chance but only you know how much pain you are in... a little relief and no harm to baby sounds worth it to me.
