OVER FEEDING?+??

Hi mommy's, my baby girl is 2 weeks old today. Im breast feeding her and she never used to vomit. The nurse/lactation consultant at the hospital told me to feed her on demand which is what I've been doing but lately she's been demanding more and more. Like right after she's had a really good feeding or I noticed when she's sleepy she wants the breast . I think its soothing to her and she uses the breast to self soothe. She's been vomiting alot lately and I think its due to overeating. Any Advice?? All is very appreciated . Thanks

This sounds like how my daughter was..my grandmother (ex midwife) came and helped me..and she said what i was soimg was letting her feed and fall asleep..but she wasntfull..so she would sleep a few minutes and wake up wanting more..i dont think i burped her properly either (really didnt have a clue in the beginning looking back!) what she showed me to do was tickle my daughter as she was dropping off..so she woukd keep feeding..when she would no longer wake from tickling id change her so she woke up and do the same on the other side..after this she would then sleep for 2-5 hours after feeds (at 2 weeks old anyway) you may be doing this sort of thing anyway..but it saved my life..i got some sleep!!

Make sure she's burping effectively after nursing, that's often a source of gas that can lead to spitting up. Otherwise, just keep nursing that baby any time she wants you to. Cluster feeding is totally normal. She's using all that milk to grow right now, and with nearly back to back growth spurts at that age she needs every bit of it. You may feel like a boob machine at times instead of a mommy. Don't worry. This too shall pass. She'll be big in no time and you'll miss the closeness and the snuggles - but yes, this period of time can be very overwhelming and sometimes frustrating. You're doing the right things. It's going to be okay.

She is only two weeks old and will get the hang of it. They do use the breast to soothe at that age and there is not much you can do. You don't know how much she is getting at a time and if she is truly hungry. You need to let her figure it out on her own and mention it to the Dr when you go in, also talk to the breastfeeding consultant at the wic office. My last daughter did the same thing and finally learned to stop eating. Good luck on breastfeeding successfully with your new baby.
