I can hardly afford the copay for er visits at 100 bucks a pop.  We do reserve that for emergencies as the way insurance is set up on pay tiers, that is the highest.  I try to budget medical expenses and would rather find a clinic or doctor setting to keep my costs down.  :>)

With my pregnancies, I see the doctor for the first time at 8 to 10 weeks and have one ultrasound at 20 weeks.  Pretty standard for private insurance.

Everyone has to do what they feel is best.

You can go to the nearest health department and tell them you think you are pregnant and do not have insurance. They will give you a caseworker to help you apply for Medicaid, and they will see you even while your Medicaid is pending just as a regular doctor would.

Medicaid will cover medical expenses incurred in the prior 3 months to being approved. They will cover your ER Bill so you will not have to.

Do whatever you feel is necessary. When it's all said and done, it's your baby and you have all the right in the world to do what you see fit. Good luck girlie. I hope all is well.

You said you just got insurance again. Look around and find an ob. The hospital itself may have an ob department that see people for regular check ups. Don't go to emergency unless you're bleeding or have severe cramping. Urgent care is another option. But an ob is what you need. Wish you all the best

Update? Did you go? If so, what did they say or do?

Planned parenthood can sometimes help with ultrasounds and refer you to a ob that either except cash payments or  will work with delayed insurance. I went to urgent care and she got me to my current ob who takes cash until insurance kicks in. Good luck

I live in Canada so our healthcare system is free However if someone pregnant goes to er concerned about their baby i think all they can do is do a quick ultrasound to make sure there is a heartbeat. Aside from that they wont tell you anything but to see an obgyn. I went for an unpregnancy related thing very early in my pregnany and they did a quick ultrasound and  they could only tell me there was "evidence of a pregnancy" which i already knew and nothing more!

Yeah going to an ob would be best. The er is going to tell you to see your ob for alot of your questions you may have anyway.

Unless you have a good reason to think otherwise, I'm sure your baby is fine, and a trip to the er will be a waste of time - yours and theirs. You're already in the second trimester, which means your risk for miscarriage is at a low. If you're concerned that you haven't felt baby moving yet, you should know that most ftms don't feel movement before 20 weeks. I didn't until 21 weeks with my first.

Is there an urgent care you are closed to instead of an er? An er is for emergencies

I agree with lauraeu Monday isn't far away you've waited this long now. There's a mother with a sick child that'll wait half the day to see a doc or other scenarios. How is that fair to other people

I'm curious as to why you haven't seen a regular doctor yet?

The ER does not need to be abused like this, as that is why there are longer wait times in the ER for those with dire emergencies. Unless you have a medical emergency, then you need to wait to make an appt with an Ob/Gyn.

Is there a reason you are going to er for tgis? Do you feel as though something may be wrong with the naby? And why haven't you been in 4 months?  Do you have a Dr that is following you? Unless something is wrong I'm not too sure the er can do anything for you. I would call the dr on mon and ask for an apt to be seen, you should be being followed regularly. How far along are you?
