Possible Herpes

The last few days I've had what I thought was a light yeast infection, I've stopped shaving because I can't see my naughty bits and yes I itched and so I had some raw spots. My bf finally convinced me to go to the ER last night. The nurses right away said it sounds like herpes, but I never had any blisters that popped and turned into the sores. It was raw from irritation and then became infected. Plus at the beginning of my pregnancy I was tested for all STDs and I never heard anything. I'm praying the results come back as negative. I planned on going all natural and if you happen to have it for the first time or have an outbreak while in labor they do an emergency c section. I'm just scared.

How far along are you?  From what I was told, they do c sections only if you have an active (sores) infection at the time of delivery. Sores can stick around up to 2weeks.  Simply having the virus won't require a csection.  Because I get very regular cold sores (basically the same virus but different area of the body) I have been taking valtrex or acyclovir throughout the pregnancy to prevent an active infection.  Safe to take and I'm guessing that's what they'll do for you too.  Unless you are very very close to delivering, you should be ok to deliver how you wish.  The meds work well.

I'll be 32 weeks Thursday. My boyfriend has type 1 which is anything above the waist and I possibly have type 2 which is below the waist. Still crossing my fingers it comes back negative, but I'm sure its a slim chance. I've heard while being pregnant you could have more flare ups. I just want everything to be clear in time.

I was averaging 1 cold sore per month before starting the meds. I am 31 weeks and have only had one very small one (from a day out in the sun without lip protection).  Generally, you are right and type 1 is above the waist.  BUT! Not always.  My doctor said you can start with a mouth sore and then through oral s ex, transfer it below the belt.  My husband and I completely avoid oral when one of us has a mouth sore just for that reason. So you could have gotten it from your bfs type 1 if he wasn't careful.

I would get an appointment with your doctor and ask to start maintenance meds right away. You should have enough time!
