Pregnant after broken bones

In August 2011, I fell from a window (30 ft) escaping a house fire. Among my broken bones were my L1 and L5 vertebra, my tailbone, my pelvis, and my right hip. Over 18 mos later I'm back on my feet and at age 25, my husband and I are expecting our first child. I'm 6 1/2 weeks pregnant and going to the doctor next week for my first checkup. I have pins in my pelvis and more metal in my hip that aided in the healing process. I was told by my doctors in the US that I shouldn't have any problems carrying a baby to term but that I would be at High Risk for a c-section. We live in the UK, and I am unfamiliar with the medical practices here. I would prefer a natural birth as I want to avoid any chemicals or medicines that have even a slight percentage of getting into babys blood stream. I have been through so many surgeries I'd also rather avoid adding any more to the list, but that may be impossible. Does anyone know what scans they will do to determine if my pelvis will be able to handle a natural birth? Has anyone been through anything similar?

One of my friends had her back and pelvis broke few years back and is pregnant with her first child. She also has pins/ex... They are going to do a csection on her as well as there afraid it will cause more problems with her back. Csections are painfull yes, but they won't hurt the baby. Ill be having my third csection the 24th of June and my other boys are just fine and very smart! :) my doctor told me its a case by case situation and people have been known to have over 7 csections and be fine. Just space them a year or two apart. Happy 9 months and good luck with what ever you decide to do

Thank you for your comment. I do also want to have more children. Have you been told of any possible issues going into a second c/s? Best of luck!

I'm guessing you'll have a c- sect.   Not sure of the exact scans but you're very freshly healed. Congrats on your little one!! I had a c/s and it honestly was not that bad. I'm scheduled for a 2nd in 14 days.

Thank you for the words of support.  I'm hopefully going to get set up with a GP down the road, but I'm worried a bit because the receptionist I spoke to was a bit rude on the phone and it seems that most of the GP offices in our area have poor ratings on the NHS website.  I've had the same GP in the US since I was a kid so the whole process is very daunting now.  My friends here have had great expieriances with their own GPs but they live in the next burrow over. I've been told that you have to register to a GP in your own postcode.
