Question about Vitamins

Have anybody on here been real sick from taking their prenatal vitamins? If so, what did you do or what your doctor suggested? Also, will taking pain pills when you are in excruciating pain hinder the baby?

Prenatal's are the worst for my nausea. I've always replaced them with Flintstones vitamins. ;)

Mine make me really sick. I've been taking them between the time I eat dinner and the time I go to sleep and that's been keeping them down since Im usually out cold by the time they are causing me issues. My doctor also suggested freezing them which will slow down the breakdown in your stomach and that has been working too.

When I got pregnant I was already taking a multivitamin  so my doctor said instead of switching to prenatal just take 1000units of folic acid as well. I'm at 18weeks and never had morning sickness. The way my pharmasist described vitamins was interesting. You're ingesting material derived from rocks. So if you ate a rock it would make you feel sick of course. There are vitamins out there that are derived from plants and are apparently way easier to digest and not so hard on your tummy.
Good luck

Yes, I just switched to New chapter perfect prenatal. Available at any vitamin Shoppe. I felt that the added extra artificial ingredients in the samples the doc gave me were responsible to adding extra to my nausea. IE shellac glaze hope u get some relief soon

I have spoken to him about them but he don't believe in taking anything besides Phenergan for nausea, Tylenol, and my Bentyl for my IBS.. He made me do cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant and I was in the hospital everyday for dehydration and IBS flare ups which are very painful but he doesn't agree with anything else because he said his wife has 3 or 4 kids and she never was sick as I am so I shouldn't need to take anything for pain.. But when i'm hurting real bad, I will take one to try to help but I haven't told him because that is not something I take everyday, its only when necessary and both times I have been checked the baby heartbeat is fine and normal is says.. I just wanted someone else opinion about this..

Its not uncommon that prenatals make you sick, I take mine after I eat a meal so that my stomach isnt empty. My doc told me this should be easier on.my stomach, as far as your pain pills, if your hurting and stressing take them because its probably stressing the baby. Talk your OB about the pills if you are that concerned.
