Rant. Sorry if this offends anyone.

I love pregnancy forums and think that it is a great way to get and give advice based on our own experiences. One thing that has been highly irritating to me and I'm not sure I can blame it on hormones is the way people talk in this forum. I love reading the posts but  automatically get annoyed when I read words like "dat , dis and mines"......seriously?

Am I the only one? If so I apologize...Some things are just irritating and more so when you are pregnant :(

I agree. I'm not the grammar police but it does bother me. But I just have to remember people on here are from all over and grew up different than I did.

Ohhh my love u are going to have to somehow live with it... Firtly I am in Africa and my English is sometimes so wrong coz my mother tongue is shona.. so I tend to think is Shona... but what u are complaining about is a reault of texting where people have had to learn to shorten words to accomodate more characters in a text or twitter ... u will have to adjust coz most people do type like thatand I believe if we arw civil and helpful.i am sure u can. Overlook that my love.... somehow I will put 99% blame on.yr hormones

It annoys me to no end! I don't comment on those posts. Its a classic "if you don't have anything nice to say...." situation lol. What annoys me more is the run on sentences. Like, really? Not one bit of punctuation? I can totally understand weird typos and mispellings and some missing periods or commas.... but when the entire thing is impossible to read I skip over it! Autocorrect makes us look dumb all the time. We have brain farts or whatever. Habitual offenders though...... I don't know lol

Obviously people speaking English as a second are a different story.

I don't think it irritates me but I do wonder about their education. If this were something where we were limited to how many characters we could use maybe it would be ok but we're not so it's unnecessary to shorten words. Plus word like dis and dat only save you one letter so again what's the point.

Exactly! Back in 2002 when texts were limited to 160 characters, sure. There's no limit here.
Things like dis and dat are not even shortening this or that. They are entirely different words stemming from colloquialisms and accents from different areas. Its not poor education! If you really think that is how those words are spelled.....Wow, lol.

Amen to that! I try to overlook it, but it really does bug me. Proper punctuation and spelling is important if you want people to understand what you're saying! Some posts get so confusing I don't even try to understand, which makes me feel bad because they are begging for help/opinions.

Questioning a persons education off of a website post is absolutely ridiculous to me. Excuse the heck out of me that I post from a $800 phone that corrects what isnt incorrect, refuses to let me space words sometimes, and even submits things before I'm done typing.  To get annoyed because some types short handed or doesn't spell out or punctuate every single thing is juvenile.  Get OVA yourselves already!!!

And then to not even want to help a person out because they mis spelled or didn't completely type something out just makes yourself look like a total douche bag!

Everyone rants and vents at some point. And the situations I am talking about have nothing to do with shortening, autocorrect or not spelling something right. You have every right to state your opinion as did I.

As I said those things totally annoy me too but it's just something you learn to deal with. Lots of things annoy me like the guy at work with his chew stuck in his teeth, the other guy that doesn't chew his food with his mouth closed, the guy that has a really annoying laugh and wears his sun glasses 24/7. My husband and how he finds the dumbest things funny! My best friend and how she pronounces her words! Lol. Point being you learn to accept their differences. In the end its part of who they are.

Although I use correct spelling,  If I understand what they are typing it doesn't bother me. I have came to learn that we live in a new day in age. Dat means That. Dis means This. If you live in Atlanta like me it's common. Depends on where and how you are raised.  Sad that a whole posting was made about it. If you want to be real, I think saying "bum" instead of "butt" is weired, but I am not from that area and respect how they use their words

Exactly. Just thought maybe if I said it that it would alleviate some of my personal frustration or find that it's not just me and what others think about it. Someone may open my eyes on how to let those annoyances go because they are small in relation to more important things. With that being said this post was after listening to someone eating with their mouth open....lol

Nobody ever said poor grammar and spelling makes anyone a bad person! You're allowed to have personal annoyances. The only people who's spelling and grammar I correct are my kid's! That's my job!
Do I actually care if someone here spells like crap? No. Lol It's just hard to decode sometimes!

Hmm.. i'm from africa, its not like we dont speak or write good english, but i restrict my term of abrrevating words within african friends and family and not outside africans because they might not understand. e.g nt, cn, b4, bc, m, 2day. which is not, can, before, because, today and so on...

I didn't read through the comments completely,  but I don't think people are being "petty" by being annoyed by that. I can handle bad spellers. Typing "dis and dat" isn't caused by the inability to spell. It's caused by people who speak that way so they type that way. It sounds stupid and uneducated weather spoken or typed and is completely unnessesary. There, I said it.

What are you talking about? Im saying if someone has bad spelling and grammar then its really not a huge deal in the big scheme of things.
My oldest friend...of 20 yrs cannot spell. Or write very good. To a point where she couldn't help my child with her homework when she babysat for me. I love her dearly. I am not in any way being uncivil but getting a text message from that friend is like reading a foreign language.
This is the last time I comment on this because it's becoming problem, you totally misunderstood what I was saying.
