Labor Induction?

So my obgyn is recommending labor induction because I live an hr away from the hospital. I have done a little reading about it, and most of what I've read has made me a little nervous. Anyone else been induced? What was your experience? Was it more painful than normal labor?

It is more painful but a lot of times its faster than going into regular labor. But all labors are different so nobody can really tell you. I did it. 7hrs no epidural and I made it fine. Hurt like hell but as soon as the baby pops out you feel no pain and forget about the labor.

My first labor was 8 hours long... I'm expecting it to go faster especially since it wasn't very long ago. There will be 22 months between my kids.

The only reason so far that she recommended the inducement is that I had my first one really fast. I only had 4 hrs labor. But that was 15 yrs ago! Lol that's a long time in between. I do live over an hr away from the hospital, and I am nervous about not getting there in time. But I am also concerned about the risks and results of inducement.

I think it depends on what they use to induce and if your body is ready for labor... Some have a horrible time with pitocin some have a great experience. My Dr gave me cytotech (which is just a pill the put on your cervex to soften it) when I was 12 days overdue but he wouldn't do anything before that because my body hasn't done anything yet and it would have given me a much higher chance of a c section. Even when I did go in to the hospital he only have me a 60% chance if vaginal deliver because I was so far over due.. Induction can have a higher risk of c section if your body isn't ready for labor.  It's completely up to you tho if you want to do it. If you are dilated some it's much better than inducing without any dilation. I would ask to wait until your body has started the process before jumping into it. I am about 45 minutes away from my hospital so I know what your concerns are with maybe not making it. I had a nurse tell me the other day that rarely do mom's not make it to the hospital. I think maybe allowing yourself a little more time to get to the hospital say if your contractions are every 7-8 minutes instead of every 5-7 minutes. As long as they are consistent and they may allow you to just walk around a while since you live so far away. But don't do something you aren't comfortable with. If you don't want to be induced tell your Dr no. You are the ultimate decider in the end. If there is a medical reason for it that's different.

Well I am on my 3rd child now a days born previous pregnancys I had to be induced its really not bad and it was nice comforting to know that the doctor knew all about my labor so it went pretty smoothly so try not to be to nervous.

Yes its more intense so pain is worse. With my second baby my water broke but he wasn't ready...was only dialated 2, wasn't thinned out and he was still high so they had to induce me to get the ball rolling lol. My contractions were RIGHT on top of each other. Began induction at 6am and made it until a lil past noon without epidural.  He wasn't born until 9pm. It wasn't TERRIBLE but I just a hpt yesterday and got a +!!!! Totally praying it'll be easier this time for sure. Good luck hun.
