I'm a licensed physical therapist and mommy of one and one on the way. Stay away from meds no need for that nonsense. Use moist hot pack on area then perform stretches you will learn in physical therapy every day especially when you wake up. You can also take tennis ball, sit on the ball on the side that bothers you. The pressure from ball will help decrease the muscle tightness that is surrounding the sciatic nerve causing that shooting pain. It will hurt but it will help trust me.

I get it sometimes but usually only a day at a time.  I dunno what I would do if I had it for a week!  What I do is drink lots of water,  stretch,  Ice pack sometimes and baths.  Usually It goes away. Hope you start feeling better!

I had it before I got pregnant and the only thing that really helped was stretches I learned in physical therapy. I would try going to PT.
