Sleeping aids?

I've been having a horrible time trying to fall asleep since I found out I'm pregnant. I'm only 8 weeks and was wondering if any of you ladies have used melatonin to help sleep. I used it before but idk if it's safe to take while pregnant. Any ideas or help is appreciated!

Melatonin is a hormone that is produced naturally by the pineal gland in the back of the brain.
Its safe to take pregnant as long as the dosage is appropriate.

According the the mayo clinic website,  melatonin is not considered safe based on both hormonal effects and issues with developmental delays. That's what the current research says. My midwife said the same. Every doc had their own opinion sometimes,  but Is rather not use it. Benadryl is a safer option. Add a nurse I have tried to encourage a nice bedtime routine that decreases stimuli. Turn off electronic devices about an hour before bed,  try drinking some warm milk or decaf tea, a warm bath is another great idea, turn out the light and deep breath for a few minutes, try rubbing a bit of lavender oil on your wrists or even in your bath- it is a very soothing scent and helps to facilitate relaxation.  Hope some of this helps you and hope you get some rest!

Besides medication some other methods can be ....making sure your bedroom is comfortable. Meaning,  besides the insomnia preventing you from sleep you don't have any other factors adding to the problem. If it's hot have an ac or fan. Stay hydrated. Sleep in light clothing, have something to drink near by, make sure all things that interrupt your natural sleep are prevented..like noise and light. I'm 11weeks and have extreme insomnia, however, I choose not to use my meds anymore and these little changes have helped me get some rest in. Good luck!
