I'm a first time, and as the special day comes by quickly I'm getting more and more scared about the epidural. Can I have some honest answers of how bad it hurts? Any tips? Etc.. Anything to help me!!

It doesn't hurt at all, just afterwards it might be briused from laying on it. They numb the area before they stick you. You'll be fine.

Feels like getting a shot. Nothing too bad if they do it right.

At the moment in my case the labor pains are so painful that the epidural felt like a pinch and thts all u wanted. You'll be ok mom! Being nervous is normal. sometimes what we imagine is worse than reality itself.

You don't need one - you could go natural instead. I did, and it was really hard but it was really amazing. I was able to control my labor, my situation. It was incredibly empowering and I wouldn't have changed it for anything. The risks involved with an epidural would have been enough to make me think twice - but I knew from day one I would be going natural anyway. All you have to do is be strong and stubborn and confident that you can do it, with a good support system by your side it's absolutely manageable.

Dont worry i was terrified and i asked to hold my nurses hand 2 years ago... but you really dont feel a thing...after i got it i went to sleep for 4 hours and had to be woke up to push but by that time it was wearing off and when they cut the skin between the va jay and your buttox i felt it so she had to numb me with a needle down there

Getting an epidural is a personal decision.. I'm 34 weeks with my 4th baby & I'm all for epi's.....I've had one with every birth & I don't regret it at all...why go through pain & misery when u can enjoy the whole birthing process...when they stick it in..u may feel nothing at all or like a little pinch or sting....but all my babies came out perfect & screaming...they were very alert..but remember your the one in control & if u feel like you should get one..get one..if you don't think u do then don't but also they will not give u an epi when u get past a certain point in your labor..I think if your dialated to 8 its to late to get one..at my hospital it is anyways may be different at other hospitals?? Good luck to whatever u may decide :)

With the amount of pain you're in from contractions, you barely feel the epidural. Epidurals are awesome! Don't be scared. Good luck!

It doesn't hurt, they place it while you are having a contraction and use litacain around the area to numb it first.

I freaked myself out so bad that I actually thought it didn't work and I had a panic attack. After all said and done, it worked, it didn't hurt and I was just making it worse in my head. So don't think about it too much and you'll do fine
