I had a bad sore throat summer cold that turned into a sinus infection a few weeks ago. My doctor said I could take Sucrets or other lozenges, anything Tylenol brand, Zyrtec, etc.... I was surprised by the list. I ended up needing an antibiotic to kick the sinus infection (amoxicillin). Call you doctor up and talk to the nurse. She will give you the thumbs up if you are feeling nervous on anything.
I used throat spray and cough drops like crazy to keep it from hurting. I hope that helps.
