I am 36 weeks and have the flu. I spoke with my ob last night and he said that he woukd not prescribe me tamiflu because pregnant women shouldn't take antiviral medication. He said to rest and get plenty of fluids and keep monitoring baby's movement.
I have then flu now and my doc put me on tamiflu. The studies that have been done in animals on the drug don't show any issues but it hasn't been tested enough. The cdc does recommend treatment with tamiflu if u have the flu or are exposed to someone with it while pregnant. The med will cause gi upset like nausea and vomiting amd diarrhea in 20% of people who take it. It's worth considering since flu rate deaths are highest in children, pregnant women and the elderly. Other effects of the flu can be preterm labor but typically I think that it cause from dehydration. Weigh your risks. I personally have been having a lot of gi upset from the meds and I'm only on day 3 of taking it. Goodluck
I would get the pharmacist to show you in their book the reasins its not safe in pregnancy..i kno the antidepressants i used to take can cause heart defects to a baby in the first trimester..somethings are only a problem then..i think pharmacists tend to know more about the effects of medication than drs do
I had the flu at the beginning if my last pregnancy and was told they couldn't give me Tamiflu because of the pregnancy...I would be cautious about it
