I would personally never allow a test that could cause miscarriage, I tell them I am having the baby no matter what, so your test is pointless! God is in control!

They told me the same thing I had the amniocentisis .. horrible experience and would not recommend it my baby girl was born perfectly healthy she was just a big baby which is why her neck was thick you could see the extra layer when she was born ..

Im glad Im not the only one who was in that situation... my baby girl was just a shunky baby, with double chin... Im not even gonna let them get to me this time around, NO GENETIC test no matter what.

There is a blood test available now that is just about as accurate as the amniocentesis or cvs. We call it the Harmony test where I'm from.

Actually an amniocentesis is where they use a needle to collect samples of amniotic fluid. A chorionic villus sampling is where they take a sample of the placenta. And yes, they both carry a risk of miscarriage.

Do not do it, I mean thats my opinion. They told me the same thing with my daughter and I was freaked out. I refused to let them stick a needle in my belly because of the risk of misscarriage. I just did the blood test (genetic test)which was negative. My daughter is perfectly healthy, the back of her neck might be a lil tick but she is a shunky baby and it explained it all after I delivered her. Mine might be different but if you are not 30 and over and do not have a high percentage of carrying a downsyndrom child, you shouldn't be worried. I am sure there is nothing wrong with your child but if you decide to do it to be at ease thats another story but there is a risk of miscarriage. Prayers to you and baby.

If they're checking solely for an extra chromosome, there's no need to take the risk of an amnio. As maw said, there's a simple test where they take your blood and extract fetal cell to look at the chromosomes. You should ask about getting that, it poses no risk to baby.

Did they give you a reason? They usually do that test if they believe there is something wrong. That test can cause you to miscarry as well. They will be sticking a long need through your belly into the placenta in order to pull fluid from it and test it. I never went through with mine and everything ended up being ok. They felt my daughter was at risk for Down syndrome
