Viruses and being around newborn...

I'm so terrified that I'm going to have a virus when I go into labor... if I do, do I get to be around the baby? Or what happens? Also... my daughter has a very weak immune system so if she has a virus when I bring him home do I have to like confine him to my room? Because I don't have someone to watch her until she gets better.. I have no idea what to do..I wish I didn't make winter babies! Haha

Breast feeding does help and it protects them and gives them antibodies like the above poster said. I took a breast feeding class and they said you can breast feed while you have a virus...so dont worry.

Ive been sick my past 3 deliveries. Flu, cold, pneumonia.... i was able to be around my babies. I was also breastfeeding them. So they were getting my antibodies to fight off infection.

I guess it depends on what the virus is. But your body should be building antibodies that the baby is getting inside the womb so if your sick before labor he would already have antibodies for what you have.  Also if you got a flu shot he will have antibodies from that to fight against the flu. But if its something bad that's he's never "been exposed to" eith some sort of antibodies then be careful
