WHAT?!!!!!!!

I am about 5 weeks pregnant and started bleeding yesterday. I went to the Dr this morning and he did an ultrasound. The results are something I never thought possible. He found two sacs, both with the yoke. The shocker..... They measure 1 week apart. TWO BABIES A WEEk APART! one measure s 5 and the other 6. I have an appointment for another ultrasound next week's. I thought I was farther along to have implantation bleeding but he said it could be that or that I'm losing one of them. This is so crazy and rare I have no clue how to feel right now lol.

If you ovulated twice, then.....2 eggs, 2 sperm, and if implanted in the uterus together.....that is a dichorionic / diamniotic twin gestation....regardless of timing of fertilization.....and not identical.

I'm not sure how it could appear they were conceived a week apart. I say this because after ovulation occurs your body changes. Cervical mucous changes to keep "intruders" out so generally your most fertile time is actually before ovulation happens. Best case scenario the sperm are there waiting when the egg comes. So it would just seem odd is all. Whenever humans are involved there is error and the measurements are soo small. The fact that you saw the same things with both babies says a lot regardless of size. Best of luck with them both turning out perfectly no matter the reason.

He didnt say twins because he saying it appears that they were conceived a week apart. I was surprised to have the doctor do the ultrasound since when I had my last miscarriage it was just a tech. He said that this is possible. Since I had a d&c done in September I was told I would be more fertile for the next six months. When I was checking for ovulation, the tests kept saying I was still ovulating (longer than the usual timeframe). He thinks it possible that I ovulated right after another. He scheduled another ultrasound for next week to further check into what's going on. I have read into it and thought the same, that twins do not always measure the same. I guess we will find out a little more next week.

Wow, either way this is not what I had expected to go in an find there were two. Crazy lol.

The age difference is not actual. It is just the inherent technical margin of error in establishing age that early. I am fairly confident if you are scanned at about 8-10 weeks their gestational ages will not be a week apart.

It's actually not rare. I did ivf and know lots of women that did as well where twins are very common. A week apart is a bit much but many ladies have had a slow grower that catches up. Some embryos just take their time and I hope this case for you : )

It's not twins with one not thriving?

Very sorry if that is the case or if you are losing one of the babies in general.

peace
