You can bleed off and on for the full 6 weeks after having a baby! This is due to uterus returning to the size it was before getting pregnant and pushing the old blood from the birth out over the 6 weeks. Some women will generally start their period 4 weeks (depends on if you breastfeeding) this could be a result of the darker blood (a period is the shedding of the uterus wall and if you have blood (which is old) from the birth still trap)!

Also when you have sex and have your "o" your uterus will contract which may also release old blood.

It could be any number of reasons why you are having the bleeding...but that is also why most doctors advise you to wait 6 weeks before doing the deed! You may feel fine but your uterus did nine months of hard time....it need to properly heal before jumping back into action!

If bleeding gets worse call the doctor (I believed my doctor said if I fill a pad (one of those thick over night ones) in less then an hour to contact her!
