When to take maternity leave?

I reside in California and we get maternity leave, but when to take it? I've asked my Dr and she keeps prolonging it. Til next office visit, I was high risk, on the 1st and 2nd trimesters. Im not now. Work has already done my baby shower and everyone keeps asking me when my last day will be. It's kind of awkward. I'm already 36 weeks and 2 days. I'm feeling fine but of course exhausted by the end of the day since I'm up on my feet all day. I'm a FTM and don't know much about this. I've asked at HR and was told if my Dr places me on leave then that's it. Please shed some insight.

Talk to hr today.  In california,  u should be eligible for paid leave starting at 36 weeks.

Depends on person and job... I work for the usps. And already know when my belly gets to certain size I won't be able to do my job. As there is alot of bending and lifting. As long as u feel ok to work then u should be ok. It also depends on ur leave. Like how long u get?  Is it paid?  That helps determine when a woman decides to take it.

I worked up until my water broke which was actually at work lol so it all depends on the person. If you feel you can't much longer then I wouldn't
