When your water breaks

When your water breaks and you go to the hospital does it mean that you have to spend the rest of the time there?

Ps) before anyone takes offence obviously I know sometimes water doesn't break on it's own. In general however it is one of your top signs to get to the hospital cause baby is on it's way

Your water is suppose to break on its own. Its one of the first signs of labor..

Go in right away you may be like me my water broke and my baby was in my arms 1/2 hr later. No joke it was that fast so go right away you never know

My water broke with two of mine. My doctor had me go in right away, my midwife said walk around, enjoy the day if you can, just don't sit in dirt piles... The chance of infection after twelve hours is the problem. In most cases it is safe to wait until contractions set in. Talk to your doctor about it.

That's not always true, but I'm in Australia. If water has broken but your not dialated they send you back home. My only water to break was for my last baby and I waited a couple of hours until contractions started and got intense when I got to hospital I was a 6.

Some docs say it's okay to shower - but it's not okay to bathe.  I know the risk for infection is minimal,  but if labor is prolonged you run a higher risk of infection.

You can shower or bathe but dont use any lotions or potions. But your best just going to hostipal. For the sake of a few hours sitting there waiting it better than anything going wrong

So your water hasn't even broken?

It usually doesn't break on it's own,  but sometimes that's how it happens.

Typically it breaks late in labor or the doctor will break it when you get to 6 cm or so.

Yes, you can wait a little while.  If you're full term,  you can wait a few hours.  Just don't shower or bathe.

U cant. U need to go immediately. After waters are gone your at risk of infection. My midewife also told me that if you do go into sudden labour the cord may go around babys neck. And you dont want that to happen at home.
When my waters went with my 3rd it was at midnight and id no pain. I rang maternity and asked could i go to sleep and go down in the morning. This was when i learned that i had to go straight away. It was over 24 hors before i got any pains

Yes unfortunantly. Dont think there is any exceptions to this rule regardless of county or number of pregnancy. X
