90% of the population has had exposure to atleast one of the 8 strains of Herpes.  If you've had the chicken pox...this percentage includes you.

The 'blood testing' that you speak of for Herpes is almost laughable when you actually know anything about it.  That is why it is no offered as routine prenatal testing.  But, if you are concerned about it, speak with your doctor.  They might be able to offer some guidance :)

I was never checked for anything with my last pregnancy. After about 32ish weeks, it was confirmed that my placenta was still covering my cervix so we knew I had to have a csection that early on. (I was also never checked for dilation since I never started having contractions.)
I'm now 34 weeks into this pregnancy and haven't been tested for anything yet either, but will be attempting vaginal labor this. (I'm assuming the swab tests will be here soon...). However, I did ask my doctor why I all of sudden broke out with THREE fever blisters on my bottom lip last week when I haven't had one since probably high school. Of course, she said it's because our immune systems are more compromised during pregnancy. Anyway, she went ahead and gave me a prescription because fever blisters are caused by a form of herpes.  To tell you the truth it scared me a little that she was concerned that I might have an "outbreak" at the time of labor.

Herpes can only be tested by swab bing a sore.  Therefore, if you don't have any sores, there is no way to test for Herpes.
