Just Curious :)

I see a lot of women posting about their doctor thinking they may have a premature baby. How does your doc know? What tests do they do to find out? Just curious :)

I am 24 weeks and my Dr mentioned this at my last appt because this is my 5th pregnancy and I'm having a lot of pressure.  She said that if it comes and goes it might be contractions.  She wants me to come in for that 2 week test if I think I'm having contractions because my other children have come between 36 and 38 weeks.  I think they're being cautious.

They do a fetal fibronectin test if they have any concern about you going into labor early. That's why they always ask anything new happening and all. I had it done because I was having stabbing pain in my cervix. If it comes back negative then there's a 99% you won't go into labor within 2 weeks and if it's positive it means you are at risk. Something about some kind of hormone or something that is released. They would also test if you been having any complication or if you have a history of premature labor or any other risks that increase your risk of premature labor.
