Word of wisdom

Hello ladies, this is more of a public service announcement than it is a question. Since about week 20 I have had a coming and going "rolling" pain in my right hand side flank area. I discussed with my Dr once and she said that because the pain wasn't continuous or severe it could be a number of things including round ligament pains. The pain would come and go and I would lay on my left side and it would get better. Fast forward to week 37, I woke up yesterday feeling like I may have UTI coming on, since I had Dr's appointment for today I just called and asked if I could take AZO and cranberry juice to hold me over, which was fine. Last night at around 9 I laid down and had the pain in my right flank again, I managed to go to sleep but when I got up for first night potty break the pain was excruciating! After 6 or so hours in the ER, blood, sweat, tears and vomiting I was told I had a kidney stone in my left kidney and a possible UTI. They gave me a morphine and antibiotic drip and sent me home to pass the stone with Tylenol. My baby was fine through the entire thing and was playing hide and seek with the nurses/monitors.  Moral of the story, if something doesn't feel right continue to push the issue with your Dr! I "soldiered on" thinking I was just being whiney since it is my first pregnancy but turns out something was not right this entire time. I'm also curious to see which is/was more painful, this or childbirth ;)

Thanks for the insight @wyattsmom2015. I'm still on an antibiotic to treat UTI and I'm not happy about it. Label says that is should not be taken at week 38 and on and I am 38 weeks today. Per my Dr there is nothing else I can take and I have to finish it. Ugh

I have had both kidneys full of stones and passed some so big the urologist said they were impassable.  I have had stints placed while pregnant and had to have emergency surgery because just after I delivered my last I had one get stuck and got septic. Kidney stones are painful and I have been hospitalized too many times to count just to get antibiotics and iv dilodid for a week each time and still got sent home on strong pain killers. The only thing worse than kidney stones is kidney stones while pregnant. It is a different kind of pain then delivery. Labor is a pain that has a reward for going through it. Passing kidney stones is a pain with no reward other than the end of the pain. Labor is a more painful process but those who experienced both will normally say kidney stone are more painful because they have nothing for it.

Flank area is that area kind of in between your back and your front, I guess your side but more towards the back. I'm curious to see which hurts more, labor or that pain I had!!

I had two kidney stones after my first pregnancy (about a month later) and I thought I was dying. It was sooooo much worse than labor. And I was in labor for 4 days before my water broke. I don't know how much of a difference it made but I also had two ovarian cysts with the kidney stones. Either way not fun at all!

I've passed 9 kidney stones in less than 4 years with one being "caught" in my urethra. But, I must say there is nothing more painful than child birth. (I have a 2 year old) good luck!  ♡ :)
