my body! vent!

Really?! I forgot you're the one that's been making a baby for 280 days 24/7 and you should decide when I should have her. I'm being selfish and making it personal? Of course I am, its my body, my 3rd child and she will come when she's ready. I'm not going to let some doctor automatically schedule me for a c section when I've told everyone from the get that even if I have to have another csec that I want to go into labor naturally like with my other 2. Grr you husband, I even had sex with you twice this week lol! For my own selfish reasons of course :)

Thank you ladies :) there's alil more to the story rose, but it doesn't matter now. I actually caught my Dr. in a lie which made me even more hesitant to go with an automatic csec. If I would have had more time, I would have got a second or third opinion or hired a doula. Unfortunately some drs are in it for the money and convenience of a c sec when a successful vbac is possible. In my case, there's still no telling if a week or two would have caused the baby to drop into proper position, but I ended up going with the safest route possible in the end and I didn't want to argue anymore.

I"m glad it's over with too,  and you have a healthy baby.  For those who have been following this,  the lesson to take away here might be to go with a C-section when your doctor recommends it.

Baking,  it sounds like your doctor was right - that your pelvic opening was too small.  I'm glad it worked out for you and your baby,  but really,  it might have been better to go with medical advice and deliver by c-section if you are not geared to vaginal delivery.

Well I lost the battle, but still won the war. Miss Allie Christine was born today @ 40 weeks 8lbs. 1 oz. 21 inches long. Doc said she was stuck on my pelvic bone and they had the anesthesiologist push down on my ribs to get her out. I'm just glad its over with and she's here and safe and healthy. Thanks for all your thoughts ladies :)

I had a csection with the first because she wasn't descending. I was induced with pitocin and they didn't want to renew my elidural a 2nd time and wait, because she was still too high, after two hours of pushing. My stillborn was because baby had too many anamolies, and she died inter-utero. My 3rd was 3 weeks early and the best vbac in history!! I pray and know this one will be even better, hoping for no epidural this time. I pray a supernatural childbirth for you too. If you read, look for this book, Supernatural Childbirth by Jackie Mize. It's what I did with my previous successful vbac, and I'm reading it and doing it again now.

Yeah for sure, maybe try talking to someone higher up or another hospital near by.

The Dr caring for me is my general practitioner and doesn't see the harm in me trying but I have to have one of the OBs from the hospital willing to back me and "be responsible" so to speak or the hospital won't let me deliver there. Its all sorts of BS in my opinion.

Tomorrow, I would keep looking or discuss deeply with your doc why she won't do it. 2 csec max? If its been that long, your incision should have a significant decreased chance of opening. Good luck and I'll keep you guys updated.

Good points rose, if makes sense for sure, but I wonder if the pitocin and epidural could have also caused the stress...too high a dose, perhaps stronger contractions by slow labor couldn't handle? I know that the baby was head down but faced the wrong way so that could have slowed things too. Either way, I still want to go into labor naturally regardless of whether or not I have to have another csec and I won't be allowed to be induced this time either so if I dilate in a timely fashion that would be a good sign for me.

My water was ruptured so they induced. I had dialated to a 3 when his heart rate dropped. The reason his heart rate dropped was the cord was around his neck twice and the slow progression was partly due to him being face up and his forehead being stuck on my pubic bone. I should of been allowed to try for a vbac with my second because there is nothing to say that those two things would of happen again. Had I know more at the time I would of fought it. Now with being about to have my third 9 years later I've tried to find an OB willing but haven't and can't afford to keep seeing different Dr for a TOLAC consult since my insurance doesn't cover it. I just feel so defeated and pissed off.

ooops,  if you were on pitocin for 12 hours and did NOT dilate,

Small pelvises are kind of rare,  but your symptoms certainly point in that direction.

If you were on pitocin for 12 hours and did dilate,  that points to the conclusion that your baby's head was still very high up and couldn't be pushed down.

In labor,  the baby's head engages down into the pelvic structure and rests right on the cervix.  With strong contractions the head pushes down against the cervix and forces it open.

If the pelvic opening is too small to allow the baby to descend - and the hip bones hold the head high up off the cervix,  the mother will never dilate past the first little bit.

When your doc went in to do the c-section,  he could tell whether the baby was still very high and not engaged.  There are very few reasons besides narrow hip structure that would keep a baby high up off the cervix after 12 hours of pitocin contractions.

It's certainly your choice to decide to try again,  but the signs here do seem to point to a narrow pelvic opening.

Best wishes in your decision.

I totally understand what you're saying Rose and if I truly have a narrow opening then all this stress is for nothing and baby will not be able to come out anyway, but if there is a chance that I might be able to push a baby out I want to. I didnt' even get to pushing with my first. I was younger and never even considered a c sec or induction and when my water broke, I immediately went in and then was given Pitocin a cpl hours later if that, without even being told what the effects were etc. and I never dilated past a 3 maybe for the whole 12 hrs I was in labor. So it seems that my lack of progress convinced my dr. that I have a small pelvic opening. She could be right, but what if she's not. I won't know until I try. I did a lot of research and they say that small pelvis's are quite rare and many dr's misdiagnose it and 65% of women have gone on to have vbacs so that is why I feel there is hope. I guess I just want to play by ear and see what happens as long as its safe for the baby and I.

baking,  the reason I had 3 c-sections was also because of my pelvic size.  My first was 7 lbs 3 oz,  and there was no way to deliver him vaginally.  Bones don't move.

If your pelvis was too small with your first baby,  the size hasn't changed.  You can't tell on the outside what the pelvic opening size is - that is,  girls with narrow looking hips may have large pelvic openings,  and women with much broader hips may have very narrow pelvic openings.

You probably might benefit from asking your doctor why he thinks your pelvic opening is too narrow.  With me,  there was a CLEAR indication on my son's skull where he was hitting bone when I was trying to push him out.

It was a fetal distress too.  Baby heartbeat was dropping and i had an epidural which i didnt feel the contractions.  It turns out that i had a longer contraction then normal nd they couldnt get baby heartbeat to go back so they push me in for an emergency..  Bad experience.

Exactly tomorrow! Because I didn't progress and baby's heartrate was dipping when I had contractions, the baby was in distress and I had an emergency c too. Of course they loaded me up with Pitocin and I had an epidural, but no, it was my "narrow" pelvis that wouldn't allow the baby to fit. Idk, I believed it, but didn't. I've actually always had a booty for a white girl lol, im pear shaped! I get that the pelvis can narrow but how can they actually tell without doing an xray, right?! Part of my problem is I wasn't gung ho about a vbac until a month ago when I did a lot of research. Its like trying to change the game in the 9th inning and the doc is not feeling it I guess.

Cornpones, my last was 2 years ago, no issues afterward, I massaged my scar tissue like the doc said, though Ive heard some docs don't tell their patients to do that, mine always did. Why was your first a c sec? Did the stillborn birth result from the vbac or other complications? so sorry to hear that :-( Im glad to hear that you have had a successful vbac, it gives me hope!

Shellie, hopefully your labor will be easy breezy and natural. C sections aren't horrible, scary if you've never had one and the recovery is kind of rough for a cpl weeks, and you feel a little robbed and ashamed ( I did at least) that you couldn't push a baby out, and you cant actually watch them take your child out, but sometimes it is the only way to get the baby out safely. In a lot of cases though, too many doctors are jumping to do c sections because they get paid more, its more convenient and perhaps less of a liability in situations like mine.

K8sh. I feel you! Why did yours turn into an emergency situation?

Thanks for the thoughts and support ladies, I will keep you posted. My dd is Tuesday the 9th and she automatically scheduled me at 1pm apparently lol...I plan on calling the hospital to see if I can cancel the surgery myself, if not, I plan on calling her Monday and "compromising" on scheduling me at 41 or 42 weeks if I don't go in naturally. Or should I just say im not going to schedule period?

If u could avoid c section please do.  I was in labor and was supposed to have natural birth but it turn out to be an emergency c section.  I hate that i have to get that because both of my previous kids were natural and i gave birth fast.  Now im still recovering from the c section.  It hurts alot and take longer time to recover.  Wish i would never listen to my doc and would just let nature takes its place before getting induce..

How long ago was your last c-section? I've had 2 vbacs, one stillborn, and one live birth st 37 weeks. It's the best. My first was a csec and hated the recovery, and not being able to lift, and so on. The vbac, recovery was awesome. I didn't rip, or tear, and it was super fast. Went in at noon he was out by 4 pm that same day. Just make sure you have at least 3 years in between and you and your uterus will do just fine!! :-)

My aunt had some really bad complications because she waited too long to have a c section so my mom is gonna try to rush me into one :/ guess ill have to kick her out of the room
