It's a form of pica, I craved baking soda so bad during my last pregnancy, as well as clay and other weird things with a similar texture. I had really low iron, although by the time I found out, taking iron pills didn't help with the crazy cravings. I haven't really had any cravings at all this pregnancy, but before I got pregnant I was going to the gym a couple times a day and taking so many vitamins and supplements that I guess my body doesn't need anything else now. I would advise you not to eat too much if any baking soda. It's sodium bicarbonate, and is very very high in sodium. It can lead to lots of swelling and some problems later in pregnancy. I now how hard it is not to eat it when you crave it,but try your best :)

This is not normal. You need to talk to your doctor about having some labs done. It sounds like you have a deficiency of something in your body. Google pica during pregnancy and it should explain what you are going through :)

I know a lot of people that chew baking soda rather the are pregnant or not... It may mean something is low in your body like iron I'm not sure it's too much a bad thing tho...
