I used a laundry basket with my 1st... until I could afford a crib. I was 19 years old and a single mom... I had to do what I had to do.

Pack and play is what I used when baby was tiny. They mostly slept with me in my bed but if i could get them to sleep in the pack and play I did to get a small break. The pack and play Matt raises up to make a bassinet so why would he have a problem. Who would he want to spend more money on a old fashion bassinet when you need a play pen anyways.

I used pack n play and the one I bought came with a napper included that flips around to use as a changer. He'll fit in the napper for maybe a month or two  until his little body is stronger. Then I'll take napper off and let him sleep on the bigger part

Y do you NEED a play pen? Just curious I never planned on having a pack n play but was given one my son hated it at any age and screamed in it. He was fine with tiny time on our carpet and playing on the floor and in the grass when it got warm enough lol. So yea I never used it and won't even bother trying this time I think they are a pain and unnecessary. We have a swing a bassinet and a very nice convertible crib.

I use a pack and play with bassinet attachment. I love them especially since they make them so upgraded now, mine has the changing table attachment and mobile

I'm using a mini co-sleeper. With my other boys I just had them in bed with me until they were old enough to use a crib.

If you don't have a play pen what do you do with your baby when you are cooking or checking the mail or taking a shower. I would not leave my baby alone in a room far away from me. Play pens are portable and can be put in line of sight of most things you are doing. They outgrow swings and other baby toys but a pack and play can keep them contained for up to a year old. They are awesome and some times a baby has just gotta cry. Of course a baby will cry when left to entertain themselves instead of being put in something that rocks bounces or something that entertains them. Play pens and quiet toys that build needed child skills are great for babies developing fine motor skills.

I agree with the above why some think a pack n play is needed. U can NOT leave a child left conpletely alone and not contained somehow while ur showering and doing things u cant do occupying an older baby. Deff agree ill use pack n play basinet and the play pen part :)

I just had to take out the top part because my 6 month old can army crawl and pull himself up to standing in the top. If I want to use the restroom or eat or anything I put him in there. I rather not just leave him on the floor to choke on big brothers all of a sudden found Lego.... I try so hard to keep those things picked up a I turn around and there is another one. And they are nice because you can take em out side so baby can enjoy the great outdoors while you are playing with older children yard work or just enjoying the outdoors.

I know you wanted to know what else you can use instead of a bassinet but I just wanted to say that I got the Halo swivel sleeper bassinet at my baby shower and I am super excited to use it. :) it's awesome.
