Lol.. it was the best way I could think to put it. :-)  and yea, I'm in the US so they might have different procedures in the UK. But I would think anywhere they would respect your wishes on how you want it handled. :-)

You can request to bathe baby your self or even to wait to bathe till later. Baby has coating on their skin when born to help get them used to life outside mommy. It's a personal choice though.

I wouldn't bother with bringing any bath essentials because even if they do clean him or her there ar the hospital they most likely won't want to be putting any products on him. Warm water and a cloth.. no need to pack extra "stuff"

The hospitals here bathe them and tell us to sponge bathe till the umbilical cord falls off but we have a choice on helping bathe them in the hospital :)

But the hospital had all the baby bath stuff so I don't think it will be necessary for you to bring.any, you can always call the hospital and ask though.

The hospital where I'm at makes sure to clean them up good before giving.them to mommy. Then every evening they sponge bathe baby bc with the umbilical stump that's the best way. I had the nurse show.me what to do and she let me bathe the babe while she watched on the second night so I could get some practice and tips... you can still do skin to skin after they clean baby up of course, they're pretty gooky at first from traveling out of our you know what. Lol

I didn't bath mine for a few days, neither did my sisters...sounds gross but they don't actually stink or anything (we all had waterbirths so I guess they had a little clean). I also never bathed my kids regularly coz they hated it and they always smelled lovely to me! (at least before they were eating solids anyway)
