ultrasound

Not really a question, just part complaint, part excitement. Today is my first ultrasound and I'm really excited and nervous, but I'm also grumbly because I have to drink all this water and then try not to pee my pants x_x. Im actually finding it difficult to drink this much water all at once. I feel like I might throw it up! This must be a special form of torture they thought up for pregnant women. I don't know how I'll be able to told my water for an hour and a half, either! OK, complaining done. Can't wait to see what's going on in there!

Lol, I went pee a little before my appointment just to take the edge off the pressure, and the tech still told me that my bladder was too full, so I had to empty it about half before she could continue. I got some really good pictures, though! It really looks like a baby! I thought it would look more like a bean, but I could see the profile of the face and one of the legs, and in some pics the baby's hand is up by its face. I'm so happy to have them! I can't wait til my 20 week ultrasound to see how much it's changed since today! I was also really relieved to see the heartbeat...it's so fast!

Jenanddaveplus3: I am overweight for my height, but not obese. Still, that's interesting and good information to know, thanks!

I freaked out an drank a ton of water and totally almost peed my pants... so I went pee and it was the longest ever, then drank more water to fill up again because I wanted to be able to see baby. Honestly the nurse was like...most people don't even do it. I went in at exactly 8 weeks and she had no problem finding baby. But she did say I was very good about having s full bladder lol. Usually they have a bathroom right off the ultrasound room and they'll tell you to go if you can't hold it lol

For your next US,  just drink 20 oz of water and start an hour before your appt. That will usually do it. They have you have a full bladder in early ultrasounds because a full bladder pushes your uterus forward allowing for a better view of baby.

They had me drink so much water and then made me wait for the ultrasound tech to be ready just to be told that they'd have to do an internal one -_- I did it all for nothing but I'm hoping for better results for you :) Good luck!!

don't worry about drinking that much and they will let you pee some are you normal signs or overweight? Not being rude but if you are small it probably won't be as much as a factor.they just want to make sure that the baby is visible enough I believe in with a full bladder it makes it easier for them at this many weeks.but honestly the doctors offices push the drinking and when you get to the ultrasound the techs don't seem to care as much. Go pee a bit and relieve the pressure! Lol

I have an hour to wait and I already have to pee so bad. The instructions on my form say to finish drinking 750ml an hour and a half before my appointment. Ugh. I think I've just gotten used to peeing every half hour or so, so now it's really difficult to hold it.

Just drink a normal amt.. they just want your bladder full but not uncomfortably full. Just don't pee before you go in there.. I've never had to fill mine..

I agree. I did that the fist time too and I was "too full" she asked me to let some out. Well let me tell you that is extremely difficult to stop peeing half way through.
