breastfeeding and sex.

I just had our fourth child a month ago. I'm a breastfeedin mommy and I know that bf poses as a birth control, not a reliable one I understand! But none the less, it helps. Well my husband and I are obviously still within our 6 wk period of recovery and all, last night we had sex and he stupidly did NOT pull out. I know its easy to get pregnant within the first 6 wks or so post partum. This may be a stupid question and obviously one couldn't exact answer, but what's the odds we just screwed up!? Haha.

I understand but I was just saying cause I did get pregnant while breastfeeding exclusively... I also wasn't trying to use that as a BC either... And I know plenty of people who got pregnant within that 6wk period after work... And I wish I could help you as far as the pill goes but I've never tried it...

I don't think you're bein rude and I'm not sayin bf is a form of bc, I was sayin what I knew about breastfeedin based on things I read with my previous kids and breastfeeding. I am waiting for a call back from my dr right now about the morning after pill and all that.

I would ask your doctor if you should do plan b or something. That is, if you dont want another baby soon. It's very possible to get pregnant.

Breastfeeding is not any kind of birth control at all!!! I really am not trying to be rude or anything, but this point has to be stressed... You can get pregnant breastfeeding rather it be exclusively or not... Not wish any bad luck on you at all but you do have a strong possibility that you maybe pregnant... I hope you don't have that stress of being if it's not what you want... Good luck!!!

I have never heard breastfeeding as being somewhat effective in preventing pregnancy...in fact I heard just the opposite that if you are breastfeeding you are more likely to become pregnant....maybe talk to your doctor about the morning after pill and see if it is safe while breastfeeding if you are really worried about it. Good luck!

Not to scare you, but probably will lol. I just read an article in a baby mag, can't remember which one bc I love reading the all lol. But in it was a couple that thought breastfeeding was reliable birth control and at her six week appointment found out she was already pregnant! Not only that but a few weeks later found out it was twins!! Yikes lol. I made my hubby read it and told him that had better not happen to me! That scary story aside you probably haven't actually ovulated yet so you probably aren't pregnant but I would definitely get some sort of birth control that's ok for use while breastfeeding asap and use a condom until then.

I know its not a form of birth control and I don't rely on it to be either but with bf does help somehow but I don't remember, its been quite a while since ive read up on all that since its not my first go round with bf. But yes to the first to comment, I exclusively bf and we cosleep and I learned from my previous that also helps. Hes def goin on a dry spell til my 6 wk check up in two wks! :) were still young and ill let him take the dumb part! :)

Breast feeding is not a form of birth control at all.  Two ladies in my office ended up pregnant believing that myth.  Pulling out is also not an effective method either...I know from experience.

There is a chance you screwed up, but if you are solely breast feeding every couple of hours, you shouldn't be pregnant.
